How many people were you looking to have?  I would look at various restaurants in the city with a room that can support your guests.  The problem is that a lot of them might have minimums that are higher than you want to spend.

I agree with PP about checking with restaurants.  Certain ones would have to keep the number under 40 unless you want to rent out the whole restaurant which means $$$$$.  We looked into renting out Zed 451 and they ask for quite a hunk since they do WELL on Saturday evenings.

Check Maggiano’s.  They were pretty reasonable for pricing.  $40/head without alcohol I think.  Italian restaurants seemed to be the easiest on the wallet I found out when I was planning my sister’s baby shower.

The Chicago park district has some beautiful venues, and I’ve seen some gorgeous cocktail receptions at the Garfield Conservatory and Colombus Park Refectory. The park district venues have a lot of character and can be a lot more reasonable than other chicago venues. I’m not entirely sure that they could accommodate a wedding as large as yours, but they would be worth investigating!

Something that I would look for is a venue that allows you to bring in your own vendors. If you can rent a space for a reasonable price, you can save so much money by bringing in an affordable caterer and buying your own alcohol.
