We got our bridesmaid's dresses at Dimitra's. They were kind of snooty and were displeased that I hadn't ordered my gown there, but they did have the nicest selection of pretty and affordable bridesmaid's dresses we could find. So I would recommend going there, but be prepared to take some flak and stand your ground.
Both my wedding gown and bridesmaids dresses were purchased at Belle Vie on Oak Street. We had a great experience there. If you're looking for bridesmaid dresses, another option is Bella Bridesmaid on Chestnut.
I cannot recommend Bella Bridesmaid enough! The staff is amazing and their selection isn't your typical BM dress (but they do have some lovely classics as well).
I actually bough my wedding dress here. I got a Priscilla of Boston BM dress and ordered it in white. The experience was awesome, and they alert you via e-mail when your dress comes in (which was perfect for me because I do everything via e-mail).
I also had a great experience at Belle Vie, too. My consultant was super sweet and they had a great selection of dresses.
@Ms.Pomegranate - I went to HOB before I read all the reviews and found some really nice dresses. I hadn't looked at the BM dresses there yet. After reading the reviews I'm afraid to order through them. I asked my friends what their recommendations were and a few of them said Here Comes the Bride on Swift Rd. You might also want to check out Yelp.com which is a free review website.
Try A L'Amour in Barrington - outstanding customer service, beautiful dresses. Make your appointment with Carmel - she is wonderful. Found THE dress there on the sample rack - gorgeous Pronovias for 1/2 price. Definitely worth a visit.
I went to Dimitra's and had a great experience. It was the second place I went, and I ended up buying the first dress I tried on at Dimitra's (although I did try others there too!)
I thought they were very good to work with--I would have bought my dress that day, but they told me to come back in a month when they had the designer's trunk sale so that I could save 10%, and I did. They even suggested that I have the dress sent to my home in PA so that I could save the 10% sales tax as well.
I have hit a snag with my dress in that it arrived about 5 inches too short (I did hollow to hem). However, they remeasured and it turns out that they had the right measurements; it was the designer who messed up, and they're in the process of making me a new dress.
I second the White Satin Bridal recommendation! The store is lovely, filled with beautiful dresses, and staffed by really sweet girls. I had a ton of fun and will be going tomorrow so my bmaids can get their dresses there, too!
If you can make the trip, Check out Crystal Bride in Geneva. They have a great selection and a beautiful store right on Route 38 in downtown Geneva. Nancy is the store owner and is way helpful. I've also worked with heather and she was awesome.
I got my dress out in Naperville at Catherine Simms Bridal. I also had a really good experience at A Joyful Occasion in Naperivlle. The women at both shops were very friendly and willing to work within a budget. They made me feel really comfortable and no one was super pushy.
I found my dress at Here Comes the Bride in Addison. The ladies there were wonderful and the prices were great. I would highly suggest going there.
I found my dress at the Dress by Nicole in Wheaton. Nicole is great and has a great selection at a range of price points.
I've been to just about every place and my favorite was Belle Vie (definitely recommend Krystal). I did not have a good experience at Ultimate Bride, but it may have just been my consultant. Volle's was okay; I didn't think the selection was that big and it's far if you live in the city (but I'd definitely recommend it if you're in that area). Eva's is very "self service" which is either good or bad, depending on what you want in a bridal salon. Priscilla of Boston and Macy's were both very pushy, but Macy's did have a big selection. Hope this helps.
I ended up getting my dress at A L'Amour. However, I really liked The Dress by Nicole in Wheaton. I actually tried on my dress there, but then I went to A L'Amour, where they also had the same dress. Since it was my second time trying it on, but my first time at A L'Amour, they gave me 10% off for purchasing it on my first visit. It's also a lot closer to me than Wheaton. I also really liked Wedding Belles in Barrington, where they sell sample dresses for great prices.
I had a HORRIBLE experience at A Joyful Occasion. I would not recommend that store at all. They gossiped about other customers and ate their lunch in the store while I was trying on dresses! I found their dresses to be horribly dated looking, as if they were from the 80's or 90's.
White Carriage Bridal in Shorewood is fantasic to work with. The ladies there are so nice and helpful!
Here Comes the Bride in Addison...great ladies and AMAZING prices.
I also found my wedding dress at HOB downtown on Franklin. I read the poor reviews and was skeptical, but I have only had good experiences! My consultant, Nidia, was very knowledgeable and did her best to order a dress that would fit me right, and when my dress didn't arrive right on time she proactively called me to let me know, then spent time on the phone with the manufacturer to get it RIGHT AWAY even though I coundn't come in for a fitting until a month from then (I live in Boston). I just went to my first fitting last Saturday and the dress was fantastic, and so far, the alterations manager, Donna, has seemed very nice and I get the idea she will do a great job. So I just wanted to mention this in case there are brides out there that have found the perfect dress at HOB's store, but were wary of purchasing it there. Also, I should mention that apparently they have a cash only policy for the final installment, but when I asked Nidia about this, she let me send in a check in advance no problem.
I purchased my bridesmaids' dresses at David's bridal. They're not the best quality, but they were just $99 and so cute! I didn't want to get anything too expensive because my maids are in 5 different states and are already travelling for the wedding. Everyone seems to really like them and one of my friends just called to ask if I would mind if she actually wore the dress to another wedding she was a guest at. Since there won't be any guest overlap, I said go right ahead! The more use you get out of it, the better. Just watch out not to stain it! :-)
I second A L'Amour in Barrington, I've had a good experience in the past there. Bella Bianca is on my list to visit for a bridal gown, they are so friendly and helpful over the phone and their reviews are excellent! Catherine Simms may be next on my list as well.
