I'm 5 months out and beginning to panic that we don't have a DJ yet. :O Does anyone have a recommendation for a DJ preferably from the Chicago 'burbs that isn't "cheesy"??? No offense to the brides that love the DJs that hand out leis and dance and sing, etc., but it's just not what we're looking for. Throw me some names, I beg you!!!
We're using DJ Chicago (http://www.dj-chicago.com) because they're not cheesy. Everybody I've talked to says the music is perfect and you don't even notice the DJ. That's exactly what we're going for! They're office is in Lakeview, but they probably do suburbs.
We just got married and used Staxowax DJs and they did a great job for us. Their package was pretty reasonable and while I didnt love the funny vest they normally wear you can ask them to nix it and they will for a suit or whatever. Not cheesy no bizarre interactions at all :) We had Curt the owner by the way as our DJ. http://www.staxowax.com/
If we had had lots of money our top choice would have been Something2Dance2. We heard rave reviews about their main guy Jay and really wanted to go with them but just couldnt make their prices work with our budget unfortunatly. Definatly worth looking at though they get rave reviews from everyone I know who used them. http://www.something2dance2.com/
Our other choice we almost went went with Sounds Abound DJs out in Naperville. Again I heard great things about them, their package was very reasonable but in the end it just came down to our own personal connection with the other DJ, we just clicked better. http://www.soundsabound.com/
We are using Sound Check Entertainment because they were highly recommended by our reception place. I'm very picky on what is going to be played (No Cheese!) so it was important to me to have full control over the evenings selections. Mark of Sound Check is willing to do anything I want esp. avoiding what you are concerned about. Our wedding is in 3 weeks, and I have full confidence it will be exactly as I want it. :) They are a husband and wife team (very nice!) and located in Woodridge.
We're using Don at Fun Times DJ (www.funtimesdj.com). We've only met him over the phone (planning from NYC), but we sounded great and has apparently DJ'd for several local radio personalities! He immediately told us that he won't do any group dances unless the couple specifically requests them (which we wouldn't do because we don't want cheesy either!) and he has a whole form you fill out so he knows exactly what to do. He also won't take requests for songs that he knows the couple will hate!
