Get the Chicago Card Plus. You can set it up online to deduct a certain amount. Mine is set for $60 each time......so when my card goes below $10, the CTA will add $60 (just provide a credit/debit/bank account number). You can also pass it back to other riders, such as when family is in town. I think it limits up to 7 pass-backs??? Not sure. You can check the Chicago card website.
I wouldn't do the unlimited monthly card if you have a car. Also, you can not pass it back. If you do, it will automatically go to a "pay-per-use" and you will have to call and get it fixed. It happened to me...PIA.
**oh check and see if you company offers transit benefits. You could do the monthly card b/c they will deduct it from your paycheck sometimes pre-tax**
@gvsusara: I have the unlimited monthly card and I'm able to pass back to someone else. I just have to pay the $2.25. It has never just gone to a pay per use card for me. I've actually done this several time. Strange if that has happened to you.
However, to answer your question, definitely go with the Chicago Card Plus. Like it was said before, you can link it to your CC and it automatically renews. Plus, if you happen to lose your card, you don't lose your balance. However, you'll have to do that math to determine whether you should do the monthly pass or the pay per use. If you're only using it 2x a day for 4 days a week, it may not be worth it to you.
I have the monthly unlimited CTA pass and use it usually 10 times a week - without errands. It's nice to have for the weekends, quickly hopping on the bus, etc. And the money is automatically deducted from my paycheck and my company reimburses me for the monthly unlimited - so it all works out well in the end.
We have a car but still use the CTA quite a bit - to go to the airport when we both travel (I work downtown so it's super easy for me to just hop on the El to go to Midway or O'Hare), when I run errands at lunch I hop on a bus, etc.
@MUI831: It happened to me a little over 3 years ago & was a *nightmare* to get fixed! god bless the CTA customer service line :)
@gvsusara:Haha!!! I fear the day that I have to call that number. :)
Thanks so much ladies! sorry for my delayed response I just now got internet back after over a week! ugh. :(

I am moving to Chicago...ummm...tomorrow! And I just realized I never but my CTA pass. I was looking online and I have no idea which one to get. I will be riding it atleast 4 days a week twice a day. SHould i get the chicago plus card or the pass? I really dont understand the differences between them. Thanks!
