My friend is from the Chicago area and we were planning a trip up there this weekend. Monday night into Tuesday, here in good ol’ Louisville, half an inch of snow and some icy roads caused dozens of wrecks and EIGHT vehicles off the road that SO and I saw on our on ramp to the interstate. Now, the weathermen are forecasting somewhere between 1″-10″ sometime between Thursday afternoon and Saturday morning. They don’t seem to know what the heck is going on. Honestly, I think that at this point it has actually been revised to 1″-3″ for metro Louisville with the chance of 4″-6″ should the storm be more northern than currently believed.
But anyway, my friend and I were talking about leaving Friday afternoon to get to Chicago by seven pm. I’m really freaked out about the idea of driving in the snow. I can handle myself well enough, but obviously there are MANY people out there who can’t and I’d rather not get caught up in it. She keeps saying not to worry, even if we get five or six, it doesn’t matter, she’ll just drive. This would be okay but we’re taking my car. It doesn’t mean a darn thing to me that she knows how to drive in the snow when 99.9% of Louisville residents do NOT. I don’t want to risk getting in a wreck or worse just for a trip to Chicago.
I keep telling her we’re going to play it by ear since no weatherman really knows what we’re getting when. She gets pissy and says that she will drive, and that it’s no big deal. I’m not really sure what to do. I’m going to feel really horrible if I have to call off the trip because of snow. But at the same time, her being mad at me is so much better than us being, I don’t know, DEAD. Granted, that may be overdramatic, but dealing with 1/2 inch of snow and some ice, there were 3 fatalities. So who knows what’ll happen with three or more inches of snow.
