We are looking for reception venues. Catered or non-catered, open bar is a must. Guests 120-150.
We definitely want to keep our venue in the suburbs most of our guests are from the Western Suburbs, but to the burbs if not to far away.
We need ideas and we are open to out of norm places. Help us please! Lol.

If your wedding is at the end of March, you never know what kind of weather you’ll get (take this year for example… still in the 50s in May?!) so you might want to book an indoor reception to be safe. As far as “out of the norm places,” check out Brookfield Zoo — I saw pics of receptions there and they look so cool! Plus everyone has had great experiences planning everything there. I heard they even use safari-type tram cars to transport guests around the zoo, including a cocktail hour with the animals!

I just got done looking at places out in the ‘burbs! I don’t know what your budget is or your style, but off the top of my head…
Danada House (Wheaton), Herrington Inn (Geneva), Hotel Baker (St. Charles), Riverside Receptions(Geneva), Elmhurst Art Museum, Wilder Mansion (Elmhurst), Arrowhead Golf Club (Wheaton), Cantigny Park/Golf Course (Wheaton), Columbus Park Refectory (Oak Park), and Morton Arboretum (Wheaton).
Each town usually has at least one golf course/country club if that’s what you’re looking for. Hotels also have ballrooms/banquet halls which may be easier on your guests after the reception 🙂

I’m getting married at the Narnia Estate in Lemont, which is more southwest. Its a garden/mansion and absolutely incredible. I highly recommend it.

Additionally, my cousin got married at the Aromour House in Lake Forest (same place Vince Vaughn got married the year after!) and it was beautiful! Their ceremony was outdoors in the garden area and the reception was inside in a exquisitely beautiful room/hallway of what seems like a mansion but is actually a private school.

@Mrs. Fireworks: Oh I know don’t worry our wedding will be indoors. The weather is still crazy I had to shut the windows cause I was freezing! I looked at Brookfield Zoo I think it will be fun, but I am sure some family members will think it is weird. Also I am afraid it might be out of our budget.
Not really sure what our budget will be. I am hoping to be under 10k, but anything of course way under than that will be great. I hope to be 8k or under.
@juniper8: Thank you a few I have heard of, but adding them to my list.
@kingytobe: I saw the the website it’s beautiful!
@Mrs. Fireworks: Never heard of the place, thanks for the link it’s also beautiful. Also cool that Vince Vaughn was married there.
Now the BF just has to officially propose, he has the ring he just wants to “surprise” me with it sometime this year.
Thank you ladies I have a good list going and this is keeping my mind busy. Keep em coming. 🙂 Also I am open to restaurants that can handle up to 140-150 guests.

Check out Meson Sabika in Naperville. I feel like I push it so much on here! haha.
Awesome awesome food and service. Beautiful setting. My sister got married in a tent in front of the main building and it was gorgeous. They do have a banquet hall there now as well. The grounds are also beautiful and a hop skip from the Riverwalk for some great pictures.
Morton Arboretum is also gorgeous but pricey. Have you thought about going to the regular wedding banquet halls like Venuti’s? Since we are blessed to have the second most expensive weddings in the country(behind NYC) you can get the most bang for your buck at a banquet hall.

@baletrina: I haven’t been to Meson Sabika in years it was called something else then, didn’t know they have a enclosed pavilion now.
“Have you thought about going to the regular wedding banquet halls like Venuti’s? Second most expensive that will explain why I am in sticker shock most of the time when I am researching places lol. Thanks for the suggestions.
My BF and I just want a fun simple wedding or really a reception party lol. We plan on either JOP or Courthouse ceremony most likely courthouse, no wedding party, and no flowers at least not real ones. We do want a reception with an open bar (BF’s must have lol) and plenty of food.

More NW, but I was just out at Makray Memorial Golf Club and thought it’d be gorgeous for a wedding:

Anyone have price ranges for these types of venues? I’m still deciding what type of venue I like and if I want to have it more close to my family in Naperville or close to the city…

My fiance and I scoured the western burbs for our wedding venue and decided on the Wilder Mansion in Elmhurst. It is very reasonable and you can bring in your own caterer and liquor (big money savers) Megan who works there is fantastic! We are also on a budget but want a Saturday evening wedding (two things that don’t seem to mix well). Cantigny, Morton, Herrington, Narnia, etc had minimums that were just way too high for us. Hope this helps!
