I absoutely hate the fact that everyone chimes their glasses for the newly weds to kiss. We will provide bells for the guest to ring for the "newly weds" to kiss.  So.. my fiance and I have planned to have our guests throw their escort card in to a basket. As the guests ring the bells my fi or I will pick out 2 escort cards and those two guest will have to kiss! I just need to come up with a clever quote to let them know whats ahead if they ring the bells!

    Help on the quote?!

That could be really awkward if two family memebrs had to kiss, unless I am missing something here. I hate the clinking too, the best idea I saw was guest having to pay a dollar for a kiss and having a kiss can to put the money in. I wouldn't do that if you are doing a dollar dance though-that would be way too many money things.

We made it clear to our friends and family ahead of time that there would be none of that ish going on. soooo awkward. Not a single person clinked their glass for us to kiss. instead, we clinked our glasses to get everyone's attention for different toasts and speeches.

What if it's two (straight) men that end up kissing? Or two cousins?  Or something that makes your guests really uncomfortable?  I agree with mrskesslertobe, things could get awkwardddd.

We're a young couple 22 and 24. It wouldn't have to be an intimate kiss, it could even be a kiss on the cheak. It would all just be fun! were not having a super formal wedding. We want our guests to loosen up a little bit.

ugh I hate it when they clink glasses. once is cute, any more and it starts to ruin the night. I've only seen it at weddings in the north, never in the south so maybe it's a regional thing? I hate it!

No I think the escort card thing is cute. Normally couples names are written on the same escort card- she wouldn't draw two randoms. They did this at the last wedding I was at. I wished my name was drawn so I could have kissed FI.

I solved that problem by only having plastic cups and champagne flutes. Plus, it was WAY cheaper!  =o)

I really hate the clinking too - but, you know what?  I barely remember people doing it.  You just give your SO a peck and move on.  It doesn't have to be a makeout session and more quickly you peck, I bet the less people will clink.

I say that because even if you do the bell/no-clink thing - I think people will STILL clink.  Meaning - it won't avoid what you are trying to accomplish.  And, conversely, I think it draws attention to the fact they can clink.

@loulovsyou  After the bride and groom had kissed about 2x, the next time glasses started clinking they both got up, had a cute basket and said that they were now going to call out guests names and the guest whose name is called would kiss. Then after every time glasses clinked another guest's name got called.

They didn't have people throw their escort cards in the basket, they just had couples names on slips of paper in the basket they drew from.

It was a good idea and no one refused to kiss their date/spouse.

"Clink your glass, you'll get your wish. But beware, YOU'LL have to kiss!

We'll do our part in the kissing game, but for your turn: a random name!

Don't forget to place your escort card in the basket if you want dare to play."

... Maybe something like that? It's fun making up rhymes!

I set a rule at my wedding...if the guests clinked their glasses, we would kiss but so did everyone else. It only happened twice before people decided it wasn't worth it!

Things have such different meanings in US  and England,  i am from England,  and when people clink there glasses, its not because they want to see the bride and groom kiss,  its a sign that they want to hear the speeches. in fact they clink their glasses and all shout SPEECH!  SPEECH!

isnt it strange how we differ?
