I voted for returning things now and re-purchasing once you are settled and decide on the decor for your dining room. That way everything will flow and you won’t be unexpectedly spending a large sum of money right now.

I know a few people with discontinued patterns. As long as it’s a strong brand, like Rehearsal Dinner, and the pattern has been in production for a while you’ll be able to find lots in antique stores and on ebay. My sisters pattern was discontinued when they picked it out, and they almost have a full set now.

I fell in love with an antique set of 1930s china.  Needless to say, it is no longer in production and I only have what I have.  I don’t see a problem with complementing it with pieces from other collections, not everything has to match perfectly.  If you love your china, keep what you have and buy complementary items over time.

I would stick with it. I feel like now you can find almost anything online. I think there’s even a website dedicated to discontinued china. You’ll just have to look a little harder for missing pieces.

Could you add in a complimentary pattern? It would make the place settings more interesting (I don’t like matchy-matchy, but I know i’m in the minority).

Try replacements inc. they get discounted patterns and you can register with them your pattern and they will let you know when it’s available.
