Hi – We are planning a chinese banquet for the night before our wedding in NYC. It is very hard to find a good Chinese restaurant in NYC (flushing is too far for this party). I’ve lived here for 10 years and grew up nearby and we have yet to find a consistently good chinese restaurant. Does anyone have a reccomendation for me? This dinner won’t be that big (probably 30 people at the most). Suggestions? Thanks!

We are doing the same thing. I haven’t eaten at all of these, but here’s a list of banquet venues we put together based on recommendations from friends and family. We have a larger group (80-100) but I remember liking Congee Bowery for a smaller banquet. HTH!

@sy0101 Our dinner is on March 29th and we will have it at Oriental Garden on Elizabeth. It’s a small chinese restaurant next to Jin Fong. They have a private dining area downstairs (although we’re not doing it there….we’re doing it in the main restaurant). We will have almost 40 people. I’m really pleased with the restaurant. They have been easy to deal with…they’re professional…it’s clean….and I’ve liked the food very much. I’m surprised that having grown up in the area, I have never been to this restaurant. My parents liked it too (and they are they hardest to please!). I’ve been several times for dim sum and once for dinner…it has been consistently good. They are also letting us bring our own wine for a nominal corkage fee (our party is pretty picky about wine..so we’ll just have a couple of cases delivered). Plus, I really like that it’s a smaller restaurant. Good luck!

Addressed to those who have booked it already..Just out of curiousity, approximately how much was it per person?

@trycatchblock: My in laws paid, but I think it ended up costing around $350/table (excluding beverages, which they brought in).
