Chinese wedding dress makers?

I worked with Jeff Liu and have so far been pretty happy. (But I had the dress shipped to my mom so I haven’t tried it on yet.)

A good rule of thumb for having a replica made is that the more complicated the dress, the more opportunities there are for something to go wrong.

In my experience, I sent pictures and an order form and payment, and got the next email when they were shipping my dress. There were no what-do-you-think pictures in the middle to see how it was going or any of that… with a dress as detailed and unique as the one you’ve posted, you might consider finding a seamstress on Etsy (or locally) instead – it will be more expensive, but without the langauge and cultural barrier, you’ll be able to keep in much closer contact and be more involved in the process.

I feel like with that dress there would be a lot that might turn out differently that expected – since it has so many small details. I’d imagine a chinese dress maker would get you the same shape but the detail would be lacking.

How much are you expecting to pay for it? Because for a good replica of that gown it would probably be $1000-1500. If you only want to pay $300-500 I think you might be disappointed.

I have no experience with any chinese dressmakers. I was going to have one I found on ebay make my rehearsal dinner dress but decided against it. But ebay has a ton of them with great feedback. That’s a big beautiful gown.

It depends on your budget, I think.

Why not try to rent a stylish wedding dress for your wedding dress, it’s far more cheaper and you get the latest gown?

I’ve researched getting my dress made in china alot!

This is what I’ve come up with:

– look on the website of the company and see if they have images of actual dresses they have made.  You and I know they didn’t take those beautiful model pictures.

make sure:

– the company will respond to you by phone.

– they will send you image updates of your dress.

– you have contact person you can call with issues.

– they will send you actual live pieces of material from china so you know what your dress will be made of!

– PAY EXTRA for strong zippers!  The zippers break off all the time because they are so cheap!

– PAY EXTRA if you want better satin or softer lace so the dress to have better shape and movement!

– KNOW the dresses will not be lined because they cut corners.

– have dress custom made do not buy pre made sized garments cuz they run small.

– be safe and choose simple cuts without alot of bead work or fancy shaped flowers, etc.

– bead work goes wrong more times than not.

– buy through e-bay so you have time to fight it if dress comes out bad.

– be aware of e-bay policy before you buy so if things go wrong you are ready!
