I love this idea. I wish I had saw it before I asked my cousins to be ushers.

I think it is a nay, not because it is tacky, but because I think it could get confusing.

    I don’t think it’s tacky at all.  I think it’s very sweet.

I see nothing tacky about ‘as two families are coming together as one we ask you to choose a seat not a side’

I personally think it’s adorable.  My cousin didn’t have a sign but we were seated on his fiance’s side.  I didn’t even notice or think about being on a side…we were all family now.

I want to do this! I just talked with my wedding planner about this since I dont think hardly anyone will show on my side. I’m thinking I will have 20 guests on my side versus 50 and up on FI’s side. Plus I dont have any ushers.

I can’t quite put my finger on what I don’t like about this sign.  So obviously it not something I would consider “tacky.”  If you are having ushers I wouldn’t worry about it.

Nay…it makes me feel like I should feel guilty  or something if I do have “sides” I guess it just feels like it has a negative connotation at the end and I don’t want any condescending wording at my wedding.  I’d agree with your mother.

I had my family arrive early and just be general informal “greeters” Hi, welcome, guestbook, card box etc. and “sit where ever you like”

I think part of the reason I don’t like it is because I would feel awkward as a guest (but I’ve been known to overthink these things.) I feel like most people understand they can sit wherever they want, and some choose to stick by tradition, others don’t.  Also I have a feeling, depending on your crowd, that people might naturally fill in where there are empty seats.

@vmec:  I like this better than a sign.

@Utopia4us:  Thanks, I can’t take credit for it I saw it floating around on pinterest!  Haha, I have it pinned somewhere — I thought it was sweet!

I LOVE this idea! Considering my family is ginormous and SO’s is… well, not… I need that sign! Now I need to go find that pin… 😀
