@SnapCracklePop: I'm biased, but I love your original ring. You know, since we're ring twins. ;)
I like your original ring better. Once you get it reset you'll probably be much more happy with it!
The halo for sure. I just think it's prettier, has so much detail & the center really doesn't look any bigger than the pear (to me).
I'm biased-- I don't like pear shaped stones. I think the halo is prettier!
Size isn't important... it's the WOW of the stone... ok that's not the phrase, but it's true! Your first ring is so unique.
I think the style of the setting you want (antique split shank) works better with the cushion cut. With a pear I think it will look unbalanced. But I have issues with symmetry so that might just be me. And they both feel like the same size to me. I don't know why, because .4 carats is a big difference, but maybe because they are different shapes? Or the halo is compensating for the size differnce?
Either way, my only concern is that resetting the cushion won't solve your problem. If it were me, I would worry if they could do the job properly having not done it right the first time. You said there is a gap, which I don't see, (probably because its a picture) but unless you were switching for a larger diamond I don't understand why resetting it would make that gap disappear.
I dont like the pear shape, it looks like a weapon. The original is so beautiful!!!
Normally I'm not a fan of halos but I really like your original ring. For some reason, the pear cut solitaire just isn't catching my eye and is getting a 'meh' reaction from me (and I normally love solitaires!) Your original ring is very pretty and I'd stick with that.
The pear is very unique. If you are happy with the sparkle of both stones, just pick the one you personally like better. I say go with the pear if you like the shape, beautiful and unusual!
I have a pear and I love pears but I still like your halo more.
You guys need to keep in mind that whatever setting the pear goes into will be just as awesome, just not a halo. The setting it is in now is just some temporary metal it shipped in, so of course you would think "meh" towards the setting.
I think it is interesting that everyone says the cushion halo is unique since to me it seems a pretty common look vs. I have never seen anyone with a pear engagement ring before (in real life).
There is a pretty big size difference...the cushion is 5.2mm x 4.9mm and the pear is 5.2mm x 8.5mm.
But anyhoo, great feedback guys, love hearing your opinions. Keep it coming!
Have you found the inclusions in the pear? Will they be visible when it is set? Do you have an example of what you would set it in?
@SnapCracklePop: Just read your update. Question - do you think that you don't like the gap/etc of your current setting because it's technically a halo made for a princess cut? When I was getting my center stone set, I asked them about princess vs cushion and they said it's technically for a princess, so the princess looks more fluid, but cushions would work. I only ask/bring this up because we have the same setting and mine is a princess center. And another thing to keep in mind re: your poll is that, besides no visual for the second option, some people just don't love pears. So it's all pretty subjective. Go with what you want!
I guess maybe not a split shank, but I think it would look cool if it widened near the stone at least, like this tacori. I don't have a particular setting in mind yet, but this is generally the style I have in mind.
I love halos and I love the pear so I say go with both! Chech out this setting for the pear... I think it's just lovely, I keep going back to see it

@SnapCracklePop: I say get the pear in the setting at the link @betty_spaghetti sent!!! I love halos in general, but I don't love that one.
If I could do it all over again, I would do a little less clarity/color, and a bigger diamond. I have a colorless VS, but I might go one or two steps down for a bigger stone.

Here are the descriptions of the two rings I am torn between:
First, a 0.61 carat cushion cut diamond, vs2 clarity, ideal cut, and it has an I color. I already have it set in a square halo from Kay. When they set the diamond, they did it really crooked, so you can see some serious air between the rock and the halo on a couple sides. I was going for less of an airline when I bought the thing, so based my whole diamond purchase on the mm's Kay told me would fit into the ring without any gaps around the halo. So...either way, I'm going to ask them to reset the stone CENTERED, but then I started rethinking the whole ring, since it is still under the return policy.
So, when a one carat diamond for the same price as the cushion (around $1350) popped up on James Allen, I just thought "Heck, this is a diamond bargain, free returns, so let's see what this baby looks like in person."
So also for consideration is a one carat pear shaped diamond, si1 clarity, ideal cut, and an H color with VERY STRONG florescence. I just received the diamond, so I haven't set it yet. Just try to imagine a similar setting to the first (antique look/split shank), only I wouldn't do a halo with this one.
I just took a photo of the two side by side in the bathroom, so not the best light for showing off sparkle, but you get the idea of the size difference and what the halo ring would look like. The other photo is of the pear diamond in the sunlight, showing off its blue glow (which I think is cool).
