I pose the question to you all: When choosing a DOC (when on a budget), would you rather shell out a bit more just for the experience level of the coordinator?
Now, I know a lot of ladies are getting started in the coordinating business. And while I'm sure many of them to be very organized and in charge, I think I feel safer in the hands of someone who has been doing this for a while...but is it worth the price?
My first and only experience with a someone new to the business:
I had contacted one coordinator that was new to the business and highly recommended by a couple of clients. The first email contact, very friendly...the second less so, and the third, when I told her that I had to deal with some personal issues and would love to meet with her once everything was sorted out...no response at all.
Ok, well I figured I'd still give her a shot later. But being the googler that I am, I decided to do research before I contacted her again. Only to see her posting on a professional website looking for a coordinator because she had overbooked the 8/8/08 weekend.
Piecing together the puzzle, I had also sen that a knottie had the unfortunate experience of having her unnamed DOC bail last minute b/c she had gotten a higher paying gig the 8/8/08 weekend.
This has kind of soured me to giving the up and comers a shot.
Well, since the very experienced coordinators in my area (Philadelphia) ranged into the thousands of dollars for day-of service, I knew they were not an option for me and that I would have to consider less-experienced coordinators. I looked at two different people, one with about 3 years experience, one with about a year. They were both extremely professional in our correspondence, and they got rave reviews from their brides. I am confident they both would have done an excellent job. I told my husband that the money we spent for our DOC was the best money we spent out of all our expenses for the wedding. I would say, just ask for refernces--these DOCs had not just good but glowing references from their past brides.

Just wondering what all your thoughts are.
