I would choose Smashbox. Why don’t you go get a sample of both so you can try them on your own skin? Everyone’s skin is different.

I suggest going to sephora and getting a sample of each! That being said, I love makeup forever hd primer and I would never use anything different. Of the 2 you mentioned, I’ve heard good thnings about Smashbox photo finish so I would pick that.

I use the Smashbox and love it. I have oily skin, and most days this works wonders. I say most days, as sometimes my make-up stays great all day and others I need powder by noon – just my skin!

But I agree with PP. get some samples and try them out – you never know what may work better for you. I tend to have better staying power with a primer (allow to set in), BB/CC cream (allow to set in), liquid foundation (allow to set in), and then the rest of my face.

I chose Benefits Poredessional. I’ve used that before and it does a great job. Especially for a big day like your wedding! I would get a sample of each and try both out for at least a week, see which product works better for you.

On an everyday basis in which I wear makeup, I use Ulta’s Primer. Its a good price and works wonderful for the everyday wear.

anhelms:  LOVE Estee Lauder’s Double Wear foundation!  I have oily skin and use Neutrogena’s Shine Control primer.  It’s the only one I’ve bought and tried, but it works with my skin.

I agree with PP to get samples from Sephora if you can.  I believe my MUA used Smashbox during my trial and it worked really well.  I’ve also heard that Monistat Chafing Powder Gel is an excellent dupe for Smashbox.

anhelms:  you should really do a test run with each before deciding, as those two primers are very different as Photo finish is silicone based and porefessional is cream based with a powdery finish. If your skin is dry I would absolutely not recommend porefessional, and if it’s acne prone I would avoid anything silicone based as it can really clog pores. But again, you’ll only know when you try. ive not tried nyx (not a drugstore makeup fan) but have heard it’s not that great.

I do a full face (including primer!) Everyday and have a few favorites, one actually being the porefessional. Lately I am also loving clarins instant smooth (also cream based but less powdery/dry than porefessional). On days I feel I may be out in heat or end up sweating I love Becca ever matte, but only on fore head, nose and cheeks because it’s so powerful. If you want something with a lighter finish than both of those and the two you asked about, the primers from hourglass and makeup forever give good results while still letting your skin breathe.

A weird (but well known among the makeup obsessed Internet crowds – just look it up on makeupalley.com!) Tip is that Monistat anti chafing gel from the drugstore (cvs, rite aid etc) is just about a perfect dupe for smash box photo finish primer, should you end up liking it. I know it sounds super bizarre, but you get a lot of product for a third of the cost and they are all but indistinguishable.

I use Smashbox primer with Estee Lauder Double Wear everyday and I love the combo. Benefit Porefessional did not impress me.

Choosing a primer is really dependent on what type of skin you have. I love Illamasqua’s Hydra Veil, but my skin is very, very dry.

anhelms:  you’re very welcome! I’m a little obsessed w/ makeup, hair, and skincare hehe 🙂

wanted to add that urban decay’s all nighter makeup setting spray is really great for finishing off your makeup and ensuring that it sets for the day.

Kacie209:  Isn’t it! I really wish the container was bigger though! I feel like I’m going to go through it a lot faster than with other primers.

anhelms:  I recommend getting the smaller, travel sized bottle of the UD setting spray first. I bought the big bottle and it broke me out. I thought it was so weird since that never happens to me, but it definitely broke me out and I had to return it. Sad day.
