I'm new to the boards and this is my first post, so hello everyone!!! I just got engaged last week and I'm trying to find a wedding planner and wanted to know how any of you who are using one found theirs?  What's the best place to look?  Yellow pages seems so blind...I'm thinking bridal fairs but I hear those are mostly venues and photographers.  Let me know please!

    Thank You,

    Janine

    Congrats & welcome!!!

You're in the right place - odds are there are ladies on the boards who will have suggestions of planners in your area.

I think word of mouth/referrals are a great way to get the low-down on planners (and all vendors, really!).

    Good luck!

HI WELCOME AND CONGRATS ON YOUR ENGAGEMENT!Smile

AS FAR AS CHOOSING A WEDDING PLANNER...IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE TYPE OF SERVICES YOU'RE LOOKING FOR AND WHAT THEY HAVE TO OFFER YOU. HERE ON THE BEE WE ADVERTISE OUR SERVICES ON THE CLASSIFIEDS...IF YOU GO THERE YOU CAN LOOK UNDER "PLANNING" AND TRY SEARCHING FOR PLANNERS THAT FIT WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR. OR THE FABULOUS LADIES HERE ON THE BEE COULD GIVE YOU RECOMMENDATIONS AS WELL OF WHO THEY WORKED WITH IN THE PAST Wink. BRIDAL SHOWS ARE USUALLY A HIT DEPENDING ON HOW MANY PLANNERS ACTUALLY TAKE PART IN THE SHOWS....BUT I WOULD SAY THAT WORD OF MOUTH AND CLASSIFIED ON THE BEE WOULD BE YOUR BEST OPTION IN FINDING A PLANNER RIGHT FOR YOU. HOPE THIS HELPS! HAPPY HOLIDAYS & CONGRATS AGAIN!

You could try weddingwire or onewed as well...especially if you live in or near a big city. I'm a small town gal myself, so that didn't really help me, but my family already knew of a great wedding planner when I got engaged.

I found my DOC (Day of Coordinator) here on weddingbee. If you post on the local board saying you're looking for a planner in your area I'm sure someone will speak up and recommend one that they've used or someone will offer their services. I would only choose one after you have a meeting the planner and see how knowledgeable she is, and how comfortable you feel with her.

I was going to suggest the same thing as lolony - put an post in the classifieds here on weddingbee!  There are a ton of planners floating around here.
