Just keep them as bridesmaids–a lot of times it’s not about needing them, it’s more about honoring those nearest and dearest to you.  I think there may be hurt feelings if you ask them to step down.  You can still have an intimate wedding with 5 BMs.  If you are worried about costs you can have them carry small bouquets, a single flower (or something else entirely) and DIY their gifts.

That is a tough situtation.  Will having 5 BMs affect the cost of your wedding? 

This may sound a little weird but do you have one friend that may not be able to financially participate in your wedding?  Sometimes, women agree to be a bridesmaid even though they know they can’t afford it.  Is it possible one wouldn’t mind stepping down because of cost?

Don’t rock the boat — just keep them all. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on each girl, but if you ‘fire’ them you will lose friends.
