@totalchaos58:  I vote (not officially) for the dive computer!!  One, it is heartfelt and personal, and unexpected – since he did not ask for it.  Two, it will be used shortly after receiving it, and three, I think it will be appreciated for a longer period of time.  Why?!  Well, he is not even sure he will like wearing the ring, and at some point – perhaps – he ill need a wedding band 🙂  He can either choose this, and/or if he does not, I would think he would stop wearing the Tiffany ring all together.

PLUS, he will have a birthday at some point, and it gives you additional idea for that gift-giving day – if need be!!

I voted for the ring. He wants it. Dive equipment is even more personal than jewelry. Depending on how frequently you plan to dive and the types of dives you will generally do vastly different gear (including dive comps) is needed. I would trust my STBFi to pick out my engagement ring before I’d let him choose something that could mean life or death and cost just as much. (And thats saying a lot, he had no say in the ring! haha)

So I’ll stop being drama queen hardcore diver and give a bit of a revision. I’m not familiar with the dive computer you’re showing. If you guys intend most of your dives to be tropical 40fters with an occasional 100 fter for fun and the watch costs what seems reasonable to you (less than $300ish). Get it. It’s very thoughtful. My point is only that if y’all really want to get into this and certify to cave dive or take specific dive vacations with multiple deep descents he is going to need another one eventually.

I don’t see many men with random rings at all, usually just a class ring and/or wedding band so the ring sounds odd to me.  I think the dive computer would be cooler.  And if you do get into it more and need an upgrade, this would be a good starting point to get an idea of features and things you would want for a better one.

I also voted dive computer, because I asked my husband. and that was his vote. Also, I sometimes think it’s strange when men wear rings that aren’t their wedding bands.

@totalchaos58:  Then change my vote 100% to the dive watch.  It will always have special memories for him.  Congratulations on getting certified!  I hope you love it and that it will be something you guys can do together for life.  PS – cave diving is awesome! try the cenotes in eastern Mexico.  but not if you’re claustrophobic!

@totalchaos58:  You like diving together and a dive computer will encourage you to dive together more often.  The gift of quality time!

I totally vote for a dive computer. As a diver, I would have loved to have a nice dive computer from the get go that would track my dives, and that I could learn to use. And those rental equipment ones typically really suck. I think that anything that couples with a new fun hobby, especially something you enjoy together, is a great thing!

And… lot’s of men like the “idea” of wearing a ring, but many have a hard enough time getting used to a wedding ring lol.

I say dive comptuer. Now that you know he’s thinking of the ring you can get it any time. But the other will be more of a surprise and very useful

@SomedaymrsWDS:  OMG I did the cenotes… SOOOO fantastic! By far one of the most unique dives I’ve ever done, if not THE most

@MsJ2theZ:  I consider it one of my favorites!  I’m small so buoyancy is always interesting with me.  Breathe in up 2 feet.  Breathe out down 2 feet.  (At least I never run out of air!).  But going through the threads between the cenotes caverns was the strangest thing.  Breathe in tank scrapes the ceiling, breathe out BCD scrapes the bottom.  I loved it!  It wasn’t until the third thread when it occurred to me that this was probably the most dangerous thing I’d ever done in my life.  Awesome! 😀
