@MrsBeck:  Why don’t you make her a scarf?  I made my MIL an infinity scarf and she loved it.

@MrsBeck:  Well I crochet, so doing a simple double crochet the whole way is pretty quick, but I have no idea how to knit.  If I’m making something in a hurry, I’ll usually do a chunky ombre, multithreded, or sequined yarn, that way I don’t have to do much to make it look fancy lol.

@MrsBeck:  I don’t know if it’s in your budget, but if I was looking for a nice scarf for my MIL, I’d be looking at cashmere either in a solid color or a conservative pattern that can go with many looks. As for gloves, leather with a really soft and warm lining comes to mind.

That may be fancier than what you had in mind though! Also, I love the idea of handmade, but I know nothing about knitting and can’t suggest a fast pattern. Sorry 🙁

@MrsBeck:  To me, that means leather gloves and a scarf in a soft material (think cashmere).

I’d get a pashmina type thing.  And leather gloves?  Idk what “nice gloves” are either.

I get emails from World Market and they’re doing 50% of pashminas and scarves today… http://www.worldmarket.com/category/gifts-accessories/clothing-and-accessories/scarves-shawls.do?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=wk42_24dodpashminas&utm_source=decacc&CAMP=54288&RRID=40481461&instock=Only+In+Stock+Online&oosRedirect=true

@MrsBeck:  If its in your budget, go for a cashmier infinity scarf. You can pick up some fairly inexpensively this time of year online.  I saw some cute ones on Macys website (free shipping today). Isotoner gloves are really nice and easy to find. The ones with the thermal lining are the warmest. Maybe both in a medium gray so they match most anything.

@MrsBeck:  If she has, or you think she will get, a smartphone go with the smart touch. They arent good for texting but you can answer a call with your gloves on. I don’t have smart touch and its a pain in the rear to answer a call while im outside this time of year, Ive already dropped my new phone twice trying to talk on my phone and put my glove back on.
