We spent Christmas at DH’s grandmother’s house with his whole family (about 30 in all). There were 5 dogs there. All of them got along great. Christmas morning we brought our Frankie down and put him on the floor so we could get plates for breakfast. DH’s cousin’s german shepherd mix came into the room and immediately attacked Frankie. He bit him in the face and then went after him again and again. DH and his cousin’s husband pulled the dog off of Frankie, who was screaming. The dog had bitten him in the eye. We left immediately and drove 45 mins to the nearest emergency vet. It was heartbreaking. I bawled the entire way. Frankie was drooling and in complete shock. The emer vet kept him overnight. So far, it looks like he can keep his eye. The bites to it are healing. He does have a large blood clot in it that needs to break down or he’ll have to have surgery. 3 times/day we have to put antibiotics in his eye and I cry every time, it hurts him so much.
His presents are still wrapped under the tree. He probably won’t be able to have them for a couple of weeks. 🙁

Oh no, that’s horrible!!! I wonder why the dog attacked like that?? I have seen quite a few German Shepherd attacks, unfortunately on dog and humans as well. Hopefully he gets better quickly ((HUGS))

Oh wow!!! My thoughts are with you. I know how hard it is to have a hurt pet. UGH. Nothing worse, it feels like a child. I’m so sorry it had to happen around the holidays. Good luck and I’m glad he gets to keep his eye! Time will heal 🙂

Oh how horrible! Poor Frankie. 🙁
Hopefully he makes a complete recovery…dogs can be amazingly resiliant. One of ours was hit by a car and broke her pelvis – I thought she’d never walk again, but after 8 weeks in a crate she made a full recovery. Hope your little guy has a similar outcome.

OMG! My thoughts are with you and Frankie!! Poor thing 🙁
I would of flipped! The actions of your FI cousin’s dog are unaccepatable. If his dog attacks others, it should never be around other dogs ever again. What a shame!

aw, poor baby! I’m glad there was nothing more serious, and that they were able to break up the fight before it got worse. I worry about what I’d do if anything happened to my little furbaby, too. It’s hard to watch them suffer, but he’ll get to feeling better soon!

He’s looking perkier today but you can tell he’s still in pain. The cone on his head is also bothering him. I feel terrible – when we walk towards him to put his medicine in his eye, he whines just knowing its coming. 🙁

So glad to hear he is going to be okay! I can’t imagine how scary that was for you. Sending him lots of love!

Oh My Gosh! I’m so sorry. He will get better and will be back to normal. It’s amazing how resilient doggies are. He is soooo cute. I can understand how upset you are. It will be okay :).
BTW- I have a doggie named Frankie too. He stole steak on Christmas and choked really badly! I wonder whats with the Frankie/Christmas/emergency thing?
