TiaMP:  Agree 110%. As much as I LOVE Christmas, enjoy the holidays as they are and as they come.

I am ok with stores putting out Christmas goods in late Oct. though, only because you have to start shopping before you put everything out. But it’s nauseating to see people put lights up weeks before thanksgiving (cough my neighbors cough). Even my neighborhood, that has deed restrictions against putting up lights until the day after Thanksgiving, put up Christmas Wreaths all over the entrances weeks before.

The above meme reprsents my husband’s feelings. haha Thanksgiving is the first day I’m “allowed” to watch Elf. Nothing Christmas can happen until Thanksgiving for us.

howtobeawife:  Same. My DH is “allowing” me to put everything out the day after Thanksgiving. If it were up to him, we would put everything up Christmas Eve, if at all. ha!

FIs birthday is always thanksgiving week so we celebrate thanksgiving, then his birthday, then the christmas tree goes up the weeked after his birthday so this year christmas stuff can go up on the 6th. He Birthday is always forgotten so Im happy to wait to put up a tree.

My favorite holiday is Christmas! But I agree, it has to be after Thanksgiving. This rushing to put Christmas stuff up right next to Halloween makes me want to throw up.

TiaMP:  I usually don’t put up a tree until the first or second week of December and I keep the house decorated until January 8th.

Growing up, my mom’s rule was no Christmas decorations until December 1st or she would go stay in a hotel.  I think that’s a reasonable time to put up decorations.

DH and I usually put our tree up and decorate the weekend after Thanksgiving, and it goes down a week or so after New Year’s.

When we first moved into our neighborhood, we saw several houses that put up lights in late October/early November and thought these people were celebrating WAY too early, but then we realized that they were actually celebrating Diwali (Hindu festival of lights).  Oops!  They end up leaving the lights up for Christmas, so the neighborhood just looks extra festive in the Fall. 😉

we put ours up a few weeks ago.  We host Thanksgiving and DH wants all the decorations up.  He loves Christmas.  He has ridiculously good memories of Christmas as a child.  I blame his parents

If it were up to me (and I did this when I was single) I’d just put out the Charlie Brown Christmas tree and call it good.
