@AB Bride:  not to get all ‘mom’ on you – but have you been checked out by a doctor yet?  For something so chronic, I’d get a full work-up!  Sure hope you get answers and relief soon!

I’m prone to throat infections due to my very bumpy/pitted tonsils.  I hold a throatful of anti bacterial mouthwash in the back of my throat ( tilt your head waaay back) for 60 seconds every night, and 2-3 times a day when I start to feel soreness coming on.

I also agree w/pp though that a dr’s. visit is in order 🙂

Just looking at where you’re from, does it have anything to do with the dryness?  Though if its been that long and your ears and congested its probably more than “get a humidifier”.  To the doctor!

I used to have this problem, and it turned out that I had diseased tonsils.  What’s crazy is that I had them out once as an adult, and, three or four years later, they began to regenerate, and I had to have them out again. It was not fun the first time, and it really wasn’t fun the second time.

I had this and ended up getting my tonsils removed at 22. I haven’t had issues since, but DAMN is that an awful experience as an adult. I wanted to die.

@Pinkmoon:  I was 29 the first time; 33 the second time.  I’ve had a number of surgeries, but, I agree, that seemingly simple procedue (especially the second one) invovled a rather miserable recovery. I remember telling people that I felt as if I had dry, scratchy sweat socks stuck in my throat every time I tried to swallow.

I’ve had a lot of sinus issues the past few months.. sore throat, runny nose, and blocked ears/earache. I went to my doctor to get checked out and everything was fine.. so just for peace of mind you should make an appointment so you don’t have to worry about it 🙂 My doctor has told me to do hot showers & heat on my face when it bothers me, and it really helps.

I’m so sorry! Have you ever been checked out for reflux? Sometimes it manifests as a sore throat.  I have it and it makes my voice go out sometimes from all the reflux induced coughing.  There are lots of tests, but the easiest one is a barium swallow, you essentially get some xrays after swallowing something that feels like pop rocks then a thick solution.  They lay you on a table and have you roll around then the table tilts back and forth to see if any of the liquid comes back up on the xrays. It’s sort of amusing and doesn’t hurt at all. Good luck, I feel your pain.

@AB Bride:  It’s very good that your doc is sending you to an ENT.  He or she will be much better equipped to diagnose and treat you.

@AB Bride:  Just antibiotics, losenges, throat spray, and Tylenol. (And I joked a lot that I sounded like Kirstie Alley a lot of the time! 🙂
