I really need some advice.
I grew up going to a church. Right before I moved out of state a few years ago, my congregation built a new church but I grew up going to the old church which is now a different congregation. The old church is the one my whole family was baptized in, where we went on Christmas, where I went to bible school as a kid.
I reserved the one church because that is where my dreams of getting married are. They called me on Friday stating that since I am not a member there and I haven’t gone to the new church in a long time, that I need to pay non-member fee’s (a low cost of $1,100) and that I need to pay them in order to reserve my date. Now my date was pushed back to 2012 and when it was in July of 2011, I never had this requirement. They are saying it’s a “new thing”.
It is almost ruining my thoughts of getting married there, getting married by a pastor that in my opinion is being money hungry. I told them about my history in that church and said I could show picture proof that I am not just some person off the street wanting to get married in a pretty church.
They are still saying I have to pay the fee’s.
One thing I do want to say, I am not a huge church person. I do not regularly attend. I feel like they are holding that against me.
Do I pay the fee’s and get married there OR find another church? There is another Lutheran church in the area that only charges $50 for a non-member and a donation to the church.
Advice Please !!!
