We are getting married in the Catholic Church in New York, but we are currently living in Chicago.
I called and spoke with the church secretary about setting a date, and she said the priest would call me back, as dates normally arent set over the phone, but I don’t really have a choice here. He didn’t get back to me, so I called again on Monday, she said he was supposed to have called me on Friday and seemed annoyed that he didn’t. She had me leave him a voicemail and he still didn’t get back to me.
Now I am totally anxious, as we have a date we want and I’m petrified we won’t get it.
Should I call again? What should I do?

I’d give him a couple more days; the weekends are busy times for priests, so he may have been traveling to give Communion to the sick and elderly, saying mass, holding confession, etc. But if he doesn’t call by the end of the day Tuesday, I’d call back and leave a third message. Luckily, if the date you have listed is correct (10/5/13), you’ve definitely got some time before you need to start freaking out!

Story of my life trying to book our church. I’ve emailed the priest which is what it said to do online, nothing, so I emailed the assistant, she said the priest would get back to me by a certain date, nothing. I emailed the assistant back, nothing. It’s super frustrating. Sorry, I don’t have advice, just wanted to say I feel you frustration 100%

Thank you ladies! The church did get back to me and allowed me to set a date, and now I’m waiting for the church here in Chicago to get back to me and set up all of our Pre Cana things.
@anchors away, I hope they get back to you soon, that is very very frustrating!

I know how you feel. I have my date booked, but trying to get the organist on the phone has been so painful. I’ve tried the office, I’ve tried her cell phone…no calls back. Frustrating!

@coffeegal85: That is horrible! I hope she has gotten back to you, I actually have decided to not use certain vendors because of that same issue, but with the Church, I guess you have to go with their people!

i feel your pain!!! we’ve had such a hard time getting a priest to talk with us on the phone!! we live out of state from our wedding and the 4 churches we’ve talked to all insist that we have face to face meetings on (different) week days in the middle of the day before they will even talk about dates with us!!
its ok for me though because i don’t want to get married in the church and each unanswered call/question pushes FI to my side a little bit more.
