It's supposed to be the church but it doesn't always happen that way. My Batismal certificate was missing my First Communican which was really funny since I made my first communication at the same church I was baptised at. Go figure. I think you be find if you just get the records from the parish the sacrement was performed out. Also you really only need Baptism and Confirmation.
Thanks kayakgirl73...I'll have to contact my church and just get the document from them. I guess I can also ask them to send it to the other church.
The baptismal certificate does not have to list the first communion because if you have been confirmed, and the confirmation date is on the baptismal cert, then you would have had have to made your first communion in order to be confirmed.
I was wondering the same thing, but my priest told me the same thing alishadhs4 said, that you have to have your other sacraments to be confirmed. Also, my priest said that for our generation, some churches started doing individual rather than group first communions at parish masses and might have not kept good records of it. (Ironically, all of my sacraments except reconciliation happened to fall on my birthday, as I was baptized in emergencia by my father at birth as I was extremely premature).
I wish my priest saw things like yours, Miss Politico. Everything is being held up because the church where I was baptized can't find a record of it. However, the church where I had first communion and was confirmed already sent records to him. Wouldn't it make sense to think that if I was confirmed, I had to have been baptized? I am still not sure how this will all play out...
Isn't it a bit early for you to be requesting your baptismal records? My priest told me mine had to be requested within 6 months of the wedding, and not any sooner than that.
I'm also worried about getting my baptismal certificate, since I was baptized in the hospital the day I was born with no other witnesses than the priest visiting the hospital that day. I was super ill, and my mom was recovering, so my dad was with her. The priest is affiliated with some parish up in the bronx that we never saw again.
Hmm, Brooklyn, why would it be a problem to request your records sooner? It souns like your priest was implying that people can't just request their records for their own keeping. What if you just wanted your own copy? I recently called my old parish to get a copy of my marriage certificate.
Yeah, we were also told by both our priest and the wedding coordinator at our church that we could not get our baptismal certificates before 6 months out. I'm not sure why. Also, you do only need to have baptismal and confirmation records, not communion. And the church where you were confirmed should have provided that information to the church where you were baptised and your baptismal certificate should have your confirmation information on it.
If you were baptized and confirmed at a different church than where you were baptized, then your baptism should be noted on your confirmation certificate. But they don't have to send that BACK to the parish where you were baptized. Generally you just have to call every parish, because they only keep a record of what was done at their parish.
I had a similar situation because my Baptism, First Communion and First Reconciliation took place on a military base overseas. The base was closed several years ago and I was told that I would have to request the information from some special military office. But, my parents had all the original certificates so the Priest let me use those to start a new Sacramental Record at this church. If you have your certificates, you may be able to do that.
They want it to be less than six months old so that to prove you hadn't been married before in the church. I'm not sure how the six months number came into being.
I called the church I did my confirmation at, and they are sending me something - but I doubt they are sending me my baptismal document - more of my confirmation document. I'm so confused!
I requested my baptismal certificat and it does not have any notations on it either. I requested a confirmation card which I will bring to the church where I was baptized. They said they will update my baptismal certificate for me since it wasn't done. I had no clue this would be such a process.

So I requested my baptismal certificate from the place where I was baptized, and when it came back, there were NO NOTATIONS for ANYTHING besides baptism - I did my first communion and confirmation!
My priest suggested I contact the churches where I did my first communion and confirmation and have them send my paperwork to the church where I did my baptism. UGHGH!
Just wondering...whose responsiblity was it in the first place to send the notifications along...my parents? or the church?
I hope this doesn't turn into a huge hassle :(
