We are thinking of having a table outside of our reception site overlooking the river on a deck with cigars, a bowl of personalized match boxes, etc. I am aware that not all people would find this appealing at the reception, but think it would be a super cute and fun idea for those who would want one. What do you think?

I think it’s a really great idea in theory.. but here is my one concern: I actually went to a wedding that had this and almost all of the men spent the entire cocktail hour (and parts of the wedding) out on the deck..so this inside was kind of empty. As long as you are OK with that possibility I say go with it!

Do your guests even smoke cigars to justify the price? Be aware that just because someone smokes cigarettes, they won’t necessarily touch cigars at all. Nonsmokers certainly won’t and a growing number of venues, regardless of type, do not allow smoking at all. Also, many people cannot stand the smell of cigars while cigarettes don’t bother them.
Personally, I don’t know a single person of either gender who would utilize one. But if you have a ton of guests who will then do that if you want, if you don’t mind guests not participating in other activities that everyone else is engaged in. But if you only have a few who will likely use it, then it may not be worth the price.

While I enjoy the occasional cigar myself (so I have no problem with them in theory), I don’t know that your wedding reception is the time and place to be inviting your guests to lounge around outside your venue (ie, away from you and your groom) to smoke cigars.
Maybe if you’re having some kind of an after-party you could include it there?
EDIT: @Ember78 – See, now I’ve seen the complete opposite. All of my friends who enjoy the occasional cigar would never touch a cigarette. I’m the same way – cigarettes are gross in my book. And I hate the smell of cigarette smoke but enjoy the smell of cigars.

I like the idea, especially if your family/friends enjoy a nice cigar. I would have loved to include cigars, But they are not in our budget!

I love this idea. Cigar smoke smells wonderful, and I think its such a classy touch.

Thanks everyone! I think that since it is a jazz champagne brunch reception people will be mingling around anyways. If some guests don’t like the smoke they can stay away from the back patio overlooking the river. We won’t be having a dj and dancing since it will be the morning and “jazzy” so I don’t think it will feel like we are missing out on the people who would like to smoke a cigar!
I’m going to go for it… 🙂

I went to a wedding where the set this up during the reception on the back patio. I think it’s a great idea and I know some of the guys really enjoyed it but just be very careful how the smell is contained. Every time the door opened I thought I was going to be sick, I am allergic to cigarette/cigar smoke and I get very ill, so while it wouldn’t be ideal for me as a guests if you would like to do it I would just ensure that the area that it is set up in is completely seperate from the rest of your guests.

I think that is a cute idea- IF you or Fiance are into smoking cigars. Otherwise, I would come up with a different idea for out there.

We are going to do this!! Fiance LOVES smoking cigars and him and his friends always have “man night” with scotch and cigars (though we crash most of the time 😉 )
There is a little section of the garden that is kind of out of the way so it wont be right next to the reception area…and the guys (and whoever!) can go smoke a few cigars when they want to.
This was fiance’s idea and he is super excited about it! I say go for it! Its a really cute touch.
