My fiance and I are looking at having our ceremony at city hall and then having a small reception afterwards (about 40 people) at a restaurant. I’m starting to look at dresses and every picture I’ve seen at a city hall wedding, the bride has worn a knee length dress.
Any brides who have had a city hall wedding…what did your dress look like? I’ve seen some beautiful knee length dresses, but I’ve always pictured myself wearing a long dress. I know that I can wear whatever kind of dress I want, but I feel knee length is more common….would you think it’s a little over the top to wear a floor length dress or just go for it?

@tropicalfish914: We were going to do as you amd your Fiance are doing and I purchased a full length satin gown. I told everyone that no matter what type of ceremony we were having, I wanted an amazing dress! We later picked a garden venue for just the two of us, but it still works! Do what you want and what feels right! (:

we are planning having the same exact ceremony! city hall and then a nice dinner/reception with close friends and family. we will be getting married in my home city, san francisco. i thought about a short vintage-y looking dress and i liked a few on bhldn:
but like you, i like the idea of wearing a longer dress. since simpler is more of my style, i really love these ones from j.crew!
i think you should just go for it. i think it looks pretty fucking awesome to see a woman in a really beautiful gown on the steps of city hall. MAKES FOR AMAZING PICTURES!!!!

Just did the same thing last month, courthouse ceremony and dinner afterwards. We had about 15 close friends and family with us. I always pictured myself in a knee length dress so that’s what I looked for but I did see some really beautiful long dresses that I didn’t think were over the top at all.
This is the dress I wore…. $35!!! (I love a deal)
