(Closed) Civil ceremony?

@leporidae:  Perhaps just have it really small – literally you, your FI and grandmother and treat her to a really nice lunch somewhere.  Are you having a videographer?  If possible, you could get a copy for your grandmother so that she can see the wedding after the fact.  Even if you’re not having a videographer, could you get someone to at least film your vows so she can see them?

@leporidae:  That depends.  I say if you’re really sad that they can’t make it to the out of state wedding, invite them along but make sure they know it’s not a ‘wedding’ as such, just the ceremony.  Otherwise they won’t be expecting something so low-key. If they were people you only invited out of politeness, definitely don’t worry about asking them along to the civil ceremony.
