@erikabasulto: typically you can wear whatever you like. not usually a poofy ball gown or anything, I wore kaki pants and a white sweater, my FI/DH wore kakis and a black button up shirt. typically you need witnesses, we had some family friends come with us. There was a small ceremony in the courtroom with our JOP did the 'repeat after me' vows and then the put the ring on each others finger thing and then we all signed paperwork.
It was quick and painless and took all of about 15 minuets. I coudln't be happier with the whole ordeal,it was very painless.
We are still planning to have a renewal in the summer with friends and family like a real 'wedding' but our JOP ceremony was the cute and simple.
I have heard some county clerks in larger cities actually have special rooms for small wedding that allready have flowers and things in them you can call and ask what they have or just call the lovely ladies at the front desk and ask them how it will go. they are usually pretty helpful.
I'll let you know ;) We're getting married at the courthoouse this Friday. Since we aren't doing another ceremony or anything, I wanted to still make it "special" and "weddingy". We've hired a photographer for a few hours and I'm wearing a short ivory dress with an ivory wool coat an birdcage veil. FI is wearing black pants, black vest, white shirt and black skinny tie. I think the "ceremony" will be about 5 minutes or less and then we are off to take pictures! We are planning on eating dinner at a nice restaurant tha night & are staying in a nice hotel near by. 36 hours later, we are off to Mexico for a honeymoon!
We chose not to invite anyone. Neither one of us like to be the center of attention and I have family & friends all over. So instead of having some people feel left out (because they couldn't make it on short notice) we decided to just no invite anyone. We'll have a "reception" early this summer to give people enough notice for travel. And it will be more casual than a real wedding reception so much less money :)
Good luck!
Well, thank you for both your comments, very helpful....
