I have 2 eternity bands I’m looking at. First is I2-13 grade and second is VS grade. I know there will be a difference in brilliance but will it be extremely noticable? I can get 2 I2-I3 bands for the price of 1 VS band.
My assumption is that 2 low clarity bands won’t come close to the sparkle of 1 great clarity band. Am I wrong? Help bees!

I almost bought an I3 band this weekend but chickened out since I couldn’t see it in person. Curious to see responses. It was such a great price.

My response probably won’t be very popular. I2-I3 stones are going to look cloudy….period. Depedning on the price and what they are set in, it’s totally up to you. I bought a band on Etsy a while back with I2-I3 stones set in gold, price was pretty cheap and for what I paid…I was happy with it. The stones are far from great, but they are so tiny that it doesn’t really matter. If the stones are small and by small I mean really tiny…I2-I3 are fine, but don’t expect blinding sparkle. If you have the money I would go for the VS band.

I think I’ll def go for the VS band. I love sparkle and the more sparkle the better!

VS for sure! I would go I1 if it was crazy cheap but I2-i3 are the frozen spit diamonds. The inclusions will me so much that light won’t do anything

I would be worried about the structural integrity of the diamonds. Inclusions that large could cause chipping and cracking very easily if you hit your hand off something or drop your ring. I would say to go with the VS1.

The eternity band I’m returning is soooo thin and dainty I can hardly see the diamonds lol, I just wonder if the clarity upgrade is worth it..

msformaldehyde: VS! I have VS and they sprakle much, much more than I2-I3s I have from cheaper jewelry. If you’re going for a dainty band they don’t charge much at all to upgrade the stones in clarity.

FutureDrAtkins: can you please post pics? I’d love to see 🙂

msformaldehyde: I know you kinda already decided, but I thought I’d weigh in anyways as an eternity band lover. 🙂
I looked at a few eternity bands in the I clarity range, and they truly looked ok. I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for though, and had one custom made by a jeweller who is verrrry picky about diamonds. I requested “eye clean”. The independent appraisal came back VS-VVS. (He gave us a great deal too!)
The VS/VVS eternity band is just so bright! I swear, it really appears to be a noticeable difference to me. The band is 2.5mm, if that helps. The diamonds are juuust big enough to see into each one, I can see the little cutlets and it sparkles fantastically. I absolutely love it.
I think with a thinner one, I’d still go up in clarity. The light seems to bounce out better, unfettered by inclusions.
Bonus: if the diamonds are smaller, then it doesn’t cost too much to upgrade.

msformaldehyde: In most cases, the clarity won’t really matter on tiny diamonds– it’s still the cut.
I even have a teeny, tiny carbon spot in tiny diamond on my band- I know it’s there and I WANTED this ring– I chased it down LOL
Sure, there are SALT rocks out there- but you are going to notice that right away.
Mine are I1s and they still sparkle!
