What do the instructions say about the OPK kit? Usually you use OPKs in the afternoon, not in the morning. I've heard good things about the smiley faces so I'm thinking you're not using them properly...
The instructions both in the kit and on Clear Blue Easy website state that they can and should be used with first morning urine. I made sure to read and follow the directions carefully considering I paid $35 for a one month kit...
I would try testing in the afternoon instead. LH usually peaks in the afternoon. The website says at the same time each day but it doesn't specify morning or afternoon.
Is there a chance you haven't ovulated yet? How long are your cycles usually?
QBrbride is right, the LH usually peaks in the afternoon - between 2 and 4 i believe. so you may have better luck if you'd test in the afternoon. i've previously used the clearblue smiley tests and always got the smiley face. some cycles only one day but normally i would get two days of positives. i've always tested with FMU at around 6:30am.
do you have regular cycles? did you just recently come off birth control? maybe your body is still adjusting and you are not ovulating yet.
If you are using the CBEFM, test in the morning. As for your current OPK sticks, it could mean you aren't ovulating.
The Clear Blue Fertility Monitor tells you to test in the morning, however I thought the ovulation kits said you could test either morning or afternoon. I used the CB ovulation kit prior to buying my monitor and I always got smiley faces later in the afternoon. I would take it when I got home from work.
Just so you know with the monitor, I know this doesn't happen to everyone, but I had a positive OPK the first month I had the monitor but never reached "peak" on the monitor (I also confirmed ovulation via temping). I heard this could happen the first month while it "gets to know you." My second month I reached peak on the monitor. Don't be discouraged if you don't reach peak the first month you have it!
I've used the OPK sticks for the past 3 months and I test in the evening around 5pm. I never caught my surge using morning urine. Since I have a very limited window, I'm moving on to IUI or IVF in the next couple of months.

I purchased the ovulation predictor kit (20 sticks) and have been using it since the beginning of this cycle. I'm currently on CD 20 and I still have not gotten a smiley face =( I've been using first morning urine to test around 7 or 730 each morning. I have searched endlessly on the internet for others in this same situation, and the only thing that I can find is bad reviews on Amazon or women who have avoided this by testing 2-3 times per day! Since I've pretty much assumed that this method isn't going to work for me, I did purchase yesterday a CBE Fertility Monitor and hope to use this with the beginning of the next cycle. Has anyone had this issue in the past?
