In the hunt for the perfect invitations I decided to wrap my chipboard invitations in a doily. My question is, does it look tacky to stuff them in a clear envelope? I love that with a clear envelope I can see the doily but am hesitant that you can partially see the details through the envelope? Should I just get a regular ol’ envelope?

I don’t think it’s tacky, but I would be worried about the information showing… too many weirdos in the world, in my opinion. I think they look beautiful, though!! Maybe if there was some way to cover the front?, I’d totally do it.

@ellyse: it looks super cute, i’d love to get an invitation like that! It’d make me feel like getting a new freshly pressed pretty vinyl record in clear packaging or something LOL i don’t know why it makes me think of that but i love it. I would definitely put that whole thing inside a separate opaque paper outer envelope though! Or even a translucent one if you can find one…

What if you went with vellum envelopes? Then they’d be partially translucent, and I think you’d have better luck with getting them through the post office.
Personally, I don’t like the plastic-y look of the clear envelopes you have, but the doilies are great, and I’m sure everyone will love your invites no matter what!
Here are some vellum envelopes on envelopemall.com (I was happy with the yellow envelopes I bought there):

I’d go with a heavy paper envelope. The delicate doily will look a little ragged going through the mail in flimsy envelopes.

Thanks ladies! I’m on the hunt for vellum envelopes!

LOVE the idea of vellum envelopes. That way you can still see the doily, but not the info, and they look fancier than the plain plastic 🙂 The clear plastic seem a bit too much like the plastic that a nice card comes in when you buy it…

@confettiegg2000: +1. Not tacky, but I wouldn’t want to risk my personal information showing
