I keep flashing back to taking him to the Fashion and Textile Museum...the current exhibit featured the evolution of ladies' undergarments.
He blushed, but believe me, he did NOT complain.
(And he's even cuter when he blushes.)
I do. I remember seeing him for the first time the weekend he graduated from basic. We had only communicated through letters for 2 months and it was like time stopped. It was incredible.
Well....the one that comes to mind right now was picking him up from the airport when he got back from Iraq (15 months mind you!)--it was Christmas Eve and he BARELY made the flight. Chicago had so much snow, he got heavily delayed. We're talking they held it for like, 2 minutes so he could get on it and he sprinted to the terminal kind of stuff. I was hiding when he came out of the gate. I wasn't "family" yet so i couldn't technically go in which was lame. Whatever. So then I surprised him by being there. Then we showed up at his family's Christmas Eve celebration after a dinner (just the two of us) and surprised everyone. It was really amazing--they didn't thik he'd be home for Christmas and there he was!
this is a sweet thread. Elizabethtown is one of the few movies I had figured out how to get from my dvd onto my Zune and I used to watch it on the plane on the way home from visiting my husband!
My favorite memory was probably our proposal. i still reply moments from that night in my mind because it was a complete surprise (he flew out and planned the whole evning without my having a clue!).
I also love our college memories studying together on the gross dorm couches late at night.
I remember walking to meet him after having a bad day at work, and when I looked up he was rushing toward me and hugged me and swung me around. I can still feel the breeze and the giddiness, it was just what I needed.
Another favourite is his shocked face the time I shoved an ice cream cone into his face at the zoo after he'd been teasing me when we were first dating.
Should have added that we're not LD anymore, but I used to take lots of business trips and thinking about stuff like this before falling to sleep at night would make me smile.
When we were LD once we met in a small town to do dinner... we ended up not being able to say good bye to eachother and instead slept in one of our cars at the rest stop! We were too embarrassed to tell our friends but it was such a sweet moment that I always think "I have never been so happy and yet slept so uncomfortably!"
Aww these are sweet!
@ejs: I was caught in the nasty Chicago storm last Christmas... I ended up staying the night in O'hare with a ton of other people. By the time I made it to my FI I'd been up 38 hours! I could barely put a sentence together at that point lol he was really concerned...
im pmsing and emotional and reading these stories is making me tear up
This text message that I've kept locked on my phone, among others:
"You know what is better? Knowing that that someone will make you feel the happiest you've ever felt."
I think he made me tear up from 1,000 miles away....punk.
I have lots of friendship memories, but my memories of our few short days together as a couple stand out...
One of the strongest is laying on the couch while he sat on the floor next to me, just after we started dating, and asking him why he had to leave so soon after having taken so long to come along in the first place. He just sat there and brushed my hair out of my face and didn't have an answer for me. It wasn't the happiest moment together, but it was one of those where it felt like we were so interconnected, because we were feeling the exact same mixed bag of paradoxical emotions.
Another favorite is from a train ride we took together; the train went into a tunnel and for some reason the lights inside the car didn't come on, so it was pitch black. We'd both been reading books, holding hands, but it went dark in an instant and stayed that way. I'm talking pitch black. In the dark I turned, found his face and kissed him. It caught him by surprise, but he definitely enjoyed it. :) We're not a very PDA couple, so the raciness of 1) being in a crowded train full of people and 2) not knowing when the tunnel would end, instantly flooding the train with light again, made it really exciting, hehe.
ETA: Oh yeah, I also wanted to say, I really enjoyed the movie Elizabethtown too!
This is nice, to focus on good memories :) this is a great thread!
Today's been a really hard distance day, so this is a good way to end it. :)
@recessionistabride, you and my SO almost crossed paths =]. I remember it was particularly nasty and just praying he'd actually get home. Of all days, it was Christmas Eve and I hadn't seen him since May! It was nerve wrecking. Hopefully this Christmas isn't so bad and nobody gets stuck!
@daydreamwanderer, i'm pretty sure if i did something like that on a train, i'd end up kissing some old man by accident =]
There are SO many moments, laughs, and looks that I remember all of the time when we are away! I usually think about our most recent visit...like now I think about all the fun that we had over Thanksgiving. Especially running and jumping into his arms one last time when we had to say goodbye. Every moment was perfect until we had to drive our separate ways.
so maybe elizabethtown was where the folks on the office got that from! either way, i love the sentiment.
there are so many moments but one that just popped to mind was when he came to visit me in california for the first time. he wanted to see the pacific ocean so i took him to the beach. even though i do have the moment on a real camera, i picture his smile after he almost fell from running away from a wave [it came really quick]. he was just so excited to be there!
@ejs: I bet your (then) FH got to chill in the military lounge vs. the floor of terminal K! Haha I had two creepy guys stay with me all night. The first decided to have dinner with me. The second told me stories about how the police are crooked & screwed up... how they tried to charge him for a crime he didn't commit. After telling me his charming bedtime stories he said he'd "protect me" and sat with me while I slept with one eye open. lol
I agree-- hopefully everyone gets to their holiday locations safely and on time this year so we can all make new memories with our SO's!!
@recessionistabride, no, he slept on the terminal chairs or something. You know, i don' tknow why he didn't go to the USO lounge now that you mention it! He definitely told me how he slept on htose chairs with the arms pulled up and got woken up by soembody vacuuming....well, that was the time he was in atlanta. Hmm. Maybe he forgot about the USO. The USo is awesome--i've used it for long layovers. Oh that is way too creepy. I would've slept in the ladies' bathroom, LOL

This is from the movie "Elizabethtown" that maybe 10 people have seen lol. Claire takes little snapshots of people on her travels to remember people by.... this is the inspiration for my post!
I realized that I often "bank" memories of my FI when I'm with him. From a sweet comment or cute look... I stock all these memories in my brain & often go back to them when I miss him. EG: I can clearly remember the look he gave me when we were driving over the bridge after a day at an amusement park- I could just see how much he loved me at that moment. It still gives me butterflies.
Do you store memories of your LD mate and reminisce when you're missing your SO? If so, what memory do you keep going back to?
