have a question for you all. i went to the RE again yesterday and he laid out treatment options now that we are officially in the ‘unexplained’ infertility category.
one of the most attractive options, cost wise and risk wise, was a ‘minimal stimulation’ protocol with Femara (which is similar to Clomid) combined with a short course of injectibles.
as a physician i think sometimes I know just enough about meds outside my chosen field, to be dangerous! i am worried about the mechanism of action of Femara–it inhibits the conversion of androgens to estrogen that month. so, theoretically, you would have more androgens floating around –and from a biochemical perspective, lots of androgens in the bloodstream is just about the wost thing possible for your hair.
now before you call me vain–I realize this is not the biggest deal in the world!! I realize (especially in light of the tragedy this week) that I am fortunate to even have a husband to try to conceive with.
but, i already have very, very thin slow growing hair, it is a big insecurity of mine (one of my happiest things about my wedding was that my hairdresser made it look like I had way more hair than I do!) and if I try this med and it makes my hair fall out more, I just think it would be really hard on my self esteem. of course if i get pregnant, who cares–but I am most afraid of trying it and then having no baby and less hair. and that would make me kind of sad.
so, my question to you. . .if you have tried Femara, or Clomid, did you notice any effects on your hair?
