My girlfriend who is one of my bridesmaids text me today with a worry that she is pregnant. She has been on the pill for a few years and last night had sex with her fiance (he did not ejaculate) and three hours after taking her birth control pill she threw up. She reckons it would have been the 7th or 8th active pill in the packet and she takes her pills religiously each night at 5pm. I take the pill but am not certain if she is safe or not. What do you bees reckon?

I don’t think she has anything to be worried about. Am I understanding correctly that it was last night (the night she had sex) that she threw up? I feel like, after 3 hours, the pill would have metabolised already, and usually even flat out missing one active pill wouldn’t affect your hormone levels enough to trigger ovulation. Plus, if he didn’t ejaculate, it would be a long shot.

From her message I assume it was last night as she messaged me in the morning about it . I dont think she would have high chances at being pregnant since it was just one instance and he didnt fully cum, byt I didn’t know what to tell her as I’m not quite sure when during a cycle on the pill women are most likely to fall pregnant

@sunshinewish15: I agree, I think she will be OK.

@sunshinewish15: I agree with PP. Unless something really really random occured, she’s fine. The pill should have been digested by that point, he didn’t ejaculate, and she likely wasn’t ovulating (that is the whole point of most pills – you dont’ ovulate).

@sunshinewish15: She’s fine. Unless she texted you this because perhaps she IS knowingly pregnant/has been ttc and didn’t want you to be upset with her since she’s in your wedding party?? So this is her way of giving an early heads up.
It’s a little odd to text the next day.. but maybe she has a worrisome personality?

I say it’s highly unlikely that she is pregnant from that.
BC pills aren’t 100% effective though.

@sunshinewish15: I don’t think she has anything to worry about. I know that in my BC instructions it says that you don’t need to do anything if you miss one pill. I think that would only change if it was the first pill after your withdrawal bleed, but it sounds like she wasn’t!

Why doesn’t she just call her doctor with this question? Worst case scenario she could always take Plan B.

The pill would’ve been fully absorbed within 30 minutes, and even if she did miss a pill, missing one singular pill doesn’t drastically increase your percentage of getting pregnant. While they’re not 100% effective, even using them mostly properly you have a 1-ish percent chance of getting pregnant.
I’d say she’s fine.

If there is any question, she should call her doc and see about plan b.

I highly doubt she is pregnant. I have definitely missed a pill in my cycle and never got back on track…I’ve definitely been a day behind for quite a while and never got pregnant (I know, bad practice). Being that he didn’t ejaculate, she really shouldn’t worry all that much.

@tampalove35: Actually I am a bit unsure why she didn’t message me earlier, but now I do feel a bit concerned. I hope that isn’t the case!
