We use pockets too. I don’t notice an odor when they’re freshly washed.

My wash routine: cold wash with detergent, hot wash with detergent, extra rinse, inserts in the dryer, shells on a drying rack. I started out using Planet liquid detergent and I now use a homemade powder detergent (recipe here).

You could try stripping them (google for instructions) or putting them out in the sun for a few hours.

It sounds like you might need to do a bleach soak and/or use a different detergent. I highly recommend joining the facebook group “The Cloth Diaper Compendium“. You can find just about everything there is to know about washing cloth diapers and getting rid of smells.

I second the bleach soak.  From what I understand, bleach is the only way to get rid of the bacteria that is causing the smell issues.
