Looking over my credit card bills, I realized I spent quite a bit more than normal on clothes recently. I usually try to buy them on at least double sale (sale rack+coupon at Ann Taylors) and get them for 25-35%, but my husband persuaded me to buy a few extra things that were just on sale to replace an older wardrobe. (I didn’t buy much for two years when I was unemployed/underemployed.) In the past two months, I’ve spent just under $500 on: 5 dresses (two for weddings where DH was in bridal party), 2 tops, 1 skirt, 1 shawl, 1 pair of pants, two pairs of sandals all from Ann’s or DSW. Normally I might spend that in a year! Guess I need to go on a clothes diet for the rest of the year… Even though I can afford it and really need to replace my wardrobe, this got me wondering how often others shop and their buying patterns. I know some who might spend that on one trip and others who shop ebay/garage sale that wouldn’t spend that sum in several years.
So, if you’d like to play the game:
1. What sum do you usually spend on clothes, shoes and accessories in a year? (If willing, bonus: What percent of your income is it?)
2. What does that usually get you?
3. Where do you frequently shop?

@kay01: This is a fun idea.
1. I honestly couldn’t tell you. I buy a lot of clothes.
2. I get a lot of stuff on sale. For instane, I just bought a 98$ pair of jeans on clearance for $19.74 🙂 I’m a happy camper.
3. I normally only buy clothes at Maurices and/or Victoria Secret. I would rather spend a lot of money on things I’m going to wear over and over again and get a lot of use out of.

@arsing89: Gah, I forgot Victoria’s Secret! I bought a new strapless bra there about two months ago, which puts me just over $500.

Hmmm…I really have no idea.
This year…I probably will end up spending $1200-$1500 or so. I’ve probably spent $850 so far this year (just a guess)
I spent $100 at VS, I spent about $70 at the Limited when they had everything 1/2 off one day (1 cardigan, 2 tank tops, patterened shorts). I bought 2 dresses (about $90 ea) from online sales (think Gilt, etc.). Bought some clearance jewelry from places like Ann Taylor for cheeeaaaap (I got an awesome $6 necklace, regularly $30+). Bought another necklace or 2 for about $30-40 ea, online shopping.
Not much on the shoes yet this year, $70 for new running shoes (same ones I already had-Mizuno-but new, normally $110 I think, used my Amazon credit card points). I pretty much have to buy new shoes every 6-8 months.
I bought 2 purses and a new wallet for about $250 total. One from the Coach online sale site, and 1 from Kate Spade (plus a gorgeous apple green wallet!) when they had their surprise 75% off sale. I hate large purses and prefer crossbody smaller bags so that naturally reduces my costs on purses.
I usually always buy things on sale. Either when stores are having sales or online sales websites. If I can find something on clearance…great!
