a BIG hello to all! i'm newly engaged and really really interested in getting married someplace non-traditional. i'm thinking hippie-chic/ rustic elegance type thing:) the kicker is i'm on a super tight budget. i am basically envisioning a rockin cocktail hour that never ends! so food isn't a big deal to me. flowers aren't a big deal to me. I just want an amazing party in an outrageously gorgeous rustic setting. Ideally, it would be within a 3 hr drive from NYC. I'm big on the barn idea as well. does anyone know anything about cost for:

    full moon resort

cole hill estate- i literally cannot find any contact info and the one number listed is out of order

    shadow lawn

    apple barn farm

    shadow mountain farm

I am SO open to other ideas as well. I haven't been engaged long and i'm already a bit overwhelmed with the planning process. I feel like once I have a venue then I can relax a bit and start having way more fun with all of this. So come on, gals! Help a sister out.....

We're doing ours on a small family owned ski mountain.  It's perfect for us.  We wanted something non-tradtional and outdoors.  We're going to have the ceremony at the summit and the reception at the base of the mountain.  And, I'm so excited about this, the ski lift will be open to get to the ceremony if people want to.  Maybe you could look on your local (or where ever you would like to get married) website?  I found this place by looking at the city of Albany's website.

I have heard that full moon was pretty expensive.  Never heard of some of the others.

I was like you and overwhelmed with the choices.  it didn't help that we were both from LI, lived in the city, and planned on moving upstate before the wedding!  so we wound up looking at 16 venues all over the place.  Finding a venue definitely helped :)

since you said you were open to suggestions, some more all inclusive places that are within 3 hrs of the city- they don't really look/feel like catering halls!

locust grove- poughkeepsie- this is the historic home of samuel morse

catlin gardens - we almost booked here - its in middletown ny, west of the hudson river.  a little in the middle of nowhere but beautiful!!

paramount country club - our venue, i loved the ceremony site!  rustic, but elegant

if i can think of anywhere else, i will come back and post them!

We're getting married at Shadow Lawn, but we also looked at Mount Gulian which is a Historic Site in Beacon and Round Hill in Washingtonville.  I believe I've seen quite a few Round Hill Brides on the boards so maybe they can chime in!  From what I recall, if you're willing to get married on a Friday or Sunday the prices were very reasonable.  And the grounds were very nice as well.

@dmerker: MY brother was married @ Cole Hill last year. His wife JUST told me that she thinks the place was bought and they are no longer doing weddings there. Which sucks because it was AMAZING!!

I heard the website is down now and everything....

I am getting married @ Locust Grove in May. I love that it is an indoor/outdoor venue and not a typical wedding hall. So pretty you hardly need any extra decor.

Have also been to a wedding at Round Hill and that was really great! Beautiful location, we were able to wander the gardens and mansion... good food too!

My second choice for venue was Millbrook Winery - it is pretty cheap to rent the space and you can do the winery loft or a tent. Only problem is, it is really small (unless you are having under 120).

@valerina529:  Did you decide on a cater? I am looking for one at Locust Grove.

    Congrats on your engagement!

    Hi!

My fiancé are getting married next October at Mount Gulian. Have you looked there? It's a rustic barn with beautiful views of the Hudson. We're on a tight budget as well and it's actually working! It's also half the price of Locust Grove.

    Hope this helps!
