Department stores I think actually offer the most bang for your buck when it comes to coats.  They have a ton, good quality, and not insanely pricey.

Brulington Coat factory has a ton of nice coats, and will definatly have something like what you are looking for, but I think they are more on the cheep end.  I am constantly sewing buttons back on the FI’s coat.

I love Men’s Wearhouse’s stuff, but they are at the TOP of your budget.

@Tallulah_:  My husband got this exact style of coat from American Eagle, of all places (we never shop there but saw it through the window) – we bought it in Canada for $75 I think. I know Gap also carries that style of coat for men. Land’s End has a nice one, too (they sell Land’s End at Sears in Canada, I think). Joe Fresh has some (JF has some stand-alone stores but also is sold in Loblaws/Superstore in Canada).  The only issue is whether they’ll truly be warm enough for a Canadian winter; peacoats are often not very well-lined. I have peacoats that I used to wear when I lived in Canada but I had to switch to down jackets for anything below -15C.

Moores gets good stuff in, but just make sure it’s on sale!

I agree with PPs though, a pea coat isn’t the best choice when it’s that cold.

My FI bought his favorite coat a few years ago from Zara.

He actually lost it one winter (who loses a COAT?!) and I hunted around until I found the same coat to replace it, he loved it so much. He’s moved on to other coats but that one just looked so good on him!

It was very stylish and also surprisingly warm for how light it was!
(I’ve owned a Zara coat too and still wear it when it gets super cold, even though I have nicer coats)

BTW – if you are going shopping soon, make sure you do a search for “friends and family coupons” to see if you can get a good deal at whatever store you’re heading to – they’re all over the place this time of year!

Try JC Penney.  It’s actually where I bought mine this year, and FI’s last year.  I rarely ever shop from there, but for whatever reason, I find their coat selection very nice and affordable.

@Tallulah_:  Oh, my bad!  I don’t think there are any in Canada.  Oops. :/

I got my husband a fab Guess brand pea coat last christmas for 85.00 from Macy’s online. he loves it. It has a removable cotton hood/zipper liner so it can be more casual and trendy, or he can remove that and it’s a dressy pea coat. DEFinitely look online and keep an eye out on Macys.

Do you have a Marshall’s in Canada? I got DH a super nice jacket from there last year for 1/3 the cost at other stores. 🙂
