We are looking to do a wine and beer open bar for the cocktail hour for the reception. Our venue only does consumption-based for open bar… meaning we can either throw in so much money towards the bar until it runs out… or we can put it on a tab for the hour, and deal with the consequences of that later. FI would like to set an amount to put towards the bar…. but the question is- how much? Beers range from $4-$5, with wine starting at $5.50. For 100-115 people, how much money do you think is reasonable to put towards the bar?

We wanted to do open bar during cocktail hour too and the cost is 15$ per person for the hour. This includes liquor though so yours should be remarkably cheaper. I would probably do $10 per person for the hour?

we get to bring our own alcohol & its going to cost about $1000, but that is for 5 hours for $100 people (but this includes tequila). So we are paying $20 per person per hour.

@College: I think you’re missing a 0 somewhere or included a 0 somewhere. How you have it stated with 100 people spending $1000 over 5 hours comes down to $2/person/hour or is the $20 with food?

If it were me, I would put in about $1200. That should be about enough to cover 2 drinks per guest, with an average drink cost of $6. Hope this helps!
