So I am trying to figure out if we would save money by having a later ceremony and just doing a cocktail hour with hors d'oevores. I need to know how many options should you have if doing hors d'oevores and how many pieces per person. Figuring out what to serve at the reception is basically my deciding factor in where to have my reception. I have a couple options and most of them I have to use their caterer and what not. I was looking into maybe just doing meatballs, veggies & dip trays, fruit and dip trays, chicken wings, deli meats and cheese trays, mini quiche, etc. aghhh i have no idea! help!

Your caterer is probably the best person to advise you on this. It all depends on how much you want to feed people, what time your reception is, how much alcohol you're serving, etc.

Set your budget, then find a food option that fits within it.

    Good luck!

An hors d'oevores party is a lovely idea - everyone loves to nibble on many different hors d'oevores.  I would shy away from deli meats (more like a meal than appetizers) unless they are 'pre-made' into bit size sandwiches.

Include an array of cheeses with crackers (http://www.divaentertains.com/brie-and-fig-preservers-on-crackers.html - my favorite cheese appetizer), fresh fruit (cut into bite pieces/slices.  A couple of hot appetizers such as meatballs or chicken wings would be ideal.  Also - crab salad (and other fillings) in mini phyllo shells are terrific too.

Bite sized desserts are perfect too but not necessary if you are serving a wedding cake.

Best of luck and wishing you much happiness!

Yes your caterer will know. I think around 8 options is the norm.

We are having a cocktail hour before the reception, and the # I've been told to base it on is 4-6 pieces per person. That probably changes when extended over a few hours, but to give you a starting point?
