Honestly? If you don’t want to spend a fortune- Macy’s or Dillards!

Did you ever go to homecoming in high school? XD That’s the simplest way I can think of to explain a cocktail dress.

Though of course now that you’re older, you can find a style that’s more age-appropriate/sexy/whatever. 🙂

@ChuckNorris:

A cocktail dress is usually just a short semi-formal dress.  Any typical little black dress would do.  What’s your budget?  I’d probably go somewhere like Le Chateau they have tons of cute dresses but they are kind of overpriced sometimes.

@ChuckNorris:  I think the biggest thing is to avoid excessive glitter. 😉 If you’d like I could pick out some specific dresses from that link I just posted that I think are particularly pretty and age-appropriate. <3

@ChuckNorris:  I like wearing bright or jewel-toned dresses with opaque black tights and black ankle boots. I think sparkly earrings would be a great accessory.

For cocktail dresses, I like Ann Taylor, J. Crew, and Banana Republic. I think most retailers should be pushing cocktail dresses because it’s holiday party time.

I would invest in one good dress. That’s what I’ve done and even though it was pricey at first it’s been a hit every where I have worn it. I’m 5’5″ and a size 16 and I bought a dress from Bettie Page (at about $130) and I don’t normally spend a lot on clothes, but I have not regretted it once and I always have that dress in my closet to wear. http://www.bettiepageclothing.com

@ChuckNorris:  Hard to tell from the way she’s posed in that photo. Is that actually a dress? That might be something I would wear in a business setting personally.
