This really means that you need to invite 110. Everyone should have a place to sit.

However, is there any way you can have some seating around the perimeter of the room as well? Maybe some tall bar tables?

We’re having a cocktail reception too, with seating for everyone.

Question though….do you think every one of the 120 people will show up?  We’ve invited 188 and will be having 140.  I’ve never heard of every single person coming, unless it was a tiny recepetion with the closest relatives.

So you’re sending out invites to 120 people?  I’d say you’re fine with 110 seats.  I can’t imagine you’ll get a 100% yes rate for RSVPs.

First, double check that 110 isn’t the maximum capacity for the fire code.

Second, are any of the 120 invites not likely to come?  You should only invite the # you can afford and fit in a space, but in your case the 10 extra people might be a non-issue once you get RSVPs.

I think you will be fine to invite 120 people.  Most likely, they all won’t come; it rarely happens that everyone invited shows up at a party or wedding.  Some may even cancel at the last moment.  Just make sure it won’t be too cramped in your venue in case you do get 110-120 folks.

Regardless of wanting a mingling atmosphere, there needs to be enough seats for everyone. God forbid all 120 want to sit and 10 people are playing musical chairs.

Don’t send all the invites thinking at least 10 won’t show, because who knows – they might! Stick with as many guests as chairs.

Ours was a cocktail reception. We invited around 110 (including family we already knew couldn’t make it). 70 people rsvp’d yes (very busy weekend for weddings). About 64 came.

We had seating for 60. At any given moment during the evening, roughly 20 chairs were vacant.

You will have NO problem with seating.
