i hear you!!!
hubby banned coke from the house and its been over a year and im far less moody since giving it up... but if we are out and i do have a coke... wow, total sugar rush and head spin!
ive tried the diet stuff and the coke zero but its just not the same so if i cant have a real one i go without
Also, don't take a nap at 7pm, then wake up and drink 2 diet cokes. I'm wired.
And my hands are swollen. Also a bad side effect.
not to mention its liquid poison... soda should be banned everywhere. It's so bad for you!!
I banned it because the amount I was consuming was ridiculous and there was no way I would ever lose weight like that, and neither would my fiance. Plus it's not good for you at all.
But I'm the same way, Diet coke is disgusting to me and coke zero tastes just like it to me. My fiance hates regular Coke and will only drink Diet...he's crazy lmao!
It's pretty much impossible to give up Coke living in Chattanooga, or really in the south period. Coke is like a staple down here.
I'm the opposite. I started drinking Diet Coke to cut back on sugar. However, at this point, it is the only kind of Coke that tastes good to me--the regular stuff is way too sweet.
I can't drink regular Coke. It just tastes weird to me. I've been drinking Diet Coke since I was 6. Good parenting, Mom!
My FI drinks diet pop all the time & it makes me insane. Its nasty... once we live together its out!
@thecolorteale: my FI lives in KY and people inhale mountain dew there. It's shocking lol
Oh I know coke and weight go hand and hand. One summer I was drinking coke like non stop, like if you saw me I probably had a can or bottle of coke in my hand. I gained 40 pounds that summer. So now I have this little gut that looks like I'm about 3 months along. I call it my coke belly (instead of beer belly). And I want it gone dangit!
I edited the weight thing out to avoid a major discussion lol but they do go hand in hand! Regular pop is just empty calories that never fills you up & aspartame kicks cravings into overdrive!
A coke belly- hehe. Speaking of healthy habits... last week for 3 nights I ate a giant cupcake instead of dinner. I was at work & I was too lazy to make anything. lol I know, I'm gross.
thanks ok Recessionista, on tuesday i had a large wendys choc shake with extra icecream & choc for dinner as i didnt eat that day and figured i would use my entire days calories on that shake.... very bad of me!
@eloping: haha yessssss!!
I justify high calorie stuff all the time using that logic... Great minds think alike!
mcdonalds came out with some sort of quad fat filled burger that had about 2000 cals in it.... hubby said great, i can have 2 a day on training days and still be ok
his trainer was NOT happy
I stopped drinking soda and I can't even stand the taste anymore...sometimes I will be tempted but the moment I taste it I just think "eww!"
As for caffiene in general...I really can't do it. I get really hyper for around 30 minutes(or less) and then totally crash.
I couldn't agree with you more. I too grew up on Diet Coke or any diet soda since was a kid. Due to constant headsaches (probably from the soda) I stayed off the poison for months. The headaches really didn't stop so I cheated and tried to have a Diet Coke, BLECH!!! It just tasted gross!
I'm such a caffiene junkie... I need coffee to survive.
It's funny to me to hear you guys talk about drinks because in Texas, all soda is "coke"
"You want a Coke?"
"Sure."
"What Kind?"
"Dr. Pepper"
LOL... FI and I also quit buying it, but there are days when I crave that carbonation (!?) Usually that sparkling flavored water does the trick for me.
i have learned that i am now too old (i'm 24- lol) to drink anything with caffeine past 8pm. i just will not sleep.
I'm totally a soda/caffeine junkie. It's a vice I refuse to give up--I can't. It's too hard! In fact, did you know that if you have too much caffeine you end up with lumps on your breasts?! Yeaaah my doctor says it's normal and goes away though. Just FYI
I figure it's a trade off. I drink soda but I don't eat certain other "bad" things like fried foods or trans fats.
Cherry coke zero is my hands down, absolute favorite. I also like cream soda and orange soda.
In california, it's "soda" but here in the midwest it's "pop" which totally weirds me out!
I just loooove it so much but I DO like sparkling water with lemon/lime juice so I'm trying to drink that more often. It's so expensive though!
I can't drink soda hardly at all. I'm exquisitely sensitive to caffeine, so if I drink it any time after noon, I can forget about sleeping that night!
You know what's really bad? I drink Mountain Dew like water. Seriously, I wouldn't be suprised if my blood started to turn yellow.
I know it's a horrible habit, I've gotta put this one down!
I'm actually on a caffeine high right now, after having my first coffee since last Sunday. I got food poisioning earlier this week, so I was too sick to drink coffee. My stomach was kind of wonky, so I went for a few days without my morning latte. I was just getting to the point where my caffeine-headaches were going away, but I was really craving it this morning. I had some about an hour ago and I feel like I'm bouncing off the walls. It's kind of weird, because I'm usually so used to it that it doesn't effect me at all.
I LOVE my Coke!!! Our honeymoon was in Central America and they have the Coke down there with real suger, it's SO much better than the corn syrup crap here. We kept talking about how good the coke was down there, people must have thought we were druggies!!
I won't touch diet coke or anything else with aspertame!!
Every year, I give up soda for lent but I never lose any weight or have caffeine issues after I start to drink it again.
Soda? I don't drink soda, but I do drink pop! haha, I love regional differences.
I've found that the caffiene free pepsi tastes just as good as regular pepsi. But coke, I take that straight up. Its so funny because I'm actually not very sensitive to caffiene, so I have to down ALOT to get a buzz from pop, um but sometimes I do drink alot of it and get a bit hyper.
I used to drink a "coke" every morning...think of it as my own special cup of coffee. But now, with wedding workouts and such, have dropped back to cokes on weekends only...
But having said that, I'm about a month out, and I think that I've had one everyday this week...rough week!
Querida, that's how it is here. Everything is coke except for sweet tea :) :)
Coke is bottled here in Chattanooga so it's really like anyone who drinks Pepsi or RC "They aint from around these parts" heheheh
By the way my fellow caffiene junkies, what I've done to help with the caffiene is I buy a jug of chocolate milk, and the new Cranergy stuff from Ocean Spray.
Chocolate has caffiene in it and milk is good for you (especially for girls like me with crappy nails, hello calcium)
And the Cranergy has like all your vitamin C and a load of B12 and other vitamins. And the Cranergy really works! You have to get used to the Splenda taste in it but after that it's good and works.
Also invest in good pillows. We go through pillows like crazy so we bought two memory foam pillows, they're actually Walmart brand but they're amazing. I sleep so good now since we bought those.
i love diet coke. i don't drink coffee, so every afternoon i walk to a store near my office and get a diet coke. it's my little treat to myself.
i hear you on the no caffeine after 5pm rule. i will stay up all night if i drink it too late. and then when i wake up i'm still wired! some people are just more sensitive to caffeine than others.
Oh man...caffeine is scary if you've been off of it for awhile. I don't drink caffeine at all. I hated the way it used to make me feel jittery and anxious. Well, several months ago, I was starting the long drive home from my parents place to where I live and was sooooooo tired and was afraid I would fall asleep at the wheel. So, the next town I pulled over and got one of those 5 hour energy drinks...WOW....I was flying high for the first 2 hours, and then near full on anxiety meltdown the last 2 hours. lol I guess a jolt of caffeine after not having any in 8 years will do that to you. Doh! lol
Ugh. I just did the same thing with coffee. I'm in total overdrive. lol
Ugh it's true. Caffeine currently has no effect on me, but back in one of my many attempts to stop drinking it the first soda would make me a crazy person. :)
I think I will have to quit again... my wedding dress may be just a tad bit tight when it comes in and nothing will make me lose weight if I'm still on the evil stuff! ;)
Mmmm, I love me my Coke. I've been trying to kick the habbit but there's just some food that you *need* a can or bottle of Coke to make it more enjoyable. Pizza and Coke, need I say more?
Here's in Canada it's pop. We went to TN this summer for a wedding and the locals thought we were loopy for calling it that.
BTW, here we have Coke Zero. It's not quite real Coke but it's not exactly Diet Coke. Tastes okay but I still like my real Coke.
We were at a hockey game two days ago and the pregame party was sponsored by Coke. I can't even tell you how many cans I drank; stupid free samples.
Yeah I'm not completely off it, I'll drink it at restaurants. Because yes I can't eat pizza with out a coke lol!
Oh look at that...this is my 600th post! woot woot!
Please do not drink Diet Coke, its about 10 times worse for you than regular Coke, Honestly, don't drink any soda at all its horrible for you. I guarantee if you cut soda out of your diet completely you'll lose at least 5-10 lbs.
Ever seen the shoes where they use Coke to clean battery acid off a car battery? Imagine what that does to your insides ((SHUDDER))
@thecolorteale, MEMORY FOAM IS AWESOME!!!
We actually bought a 4" deep mattress pad for our bed. It's like heaven!
I have been drinking more tea lately. I do crave a fruity soda post-workout though.
Life is too short to be deprived =]
Daisybride brings up an interesting point... coke tastes diff in different countries
the softdrink in the south pacific tropics is HORRIBLE! i swear they must make it with aersnic because its so bad
i would rather drink the real stuff than the diet, the coke zero stuff worries me because of the chemicals - i worry if i would grow a 3rd booby if i drink it long enough :)
@eloping: a 2000 calorie burger-- uh is McDonalds trying to speed up death? Ugh.
My teeth hurt just thinking about drinking cokes!! Add that to the list of why pop is bad for you: the acidity attacks your tooth enamel & it keeps damaging your pearly whites up to an hour after you've finished the drink.

When you stopped drinking cokes weeks ago (except on the rare restaurant trips) and you drink one in the afternoon (say oh...five oclock?) It's a really bad idea. Because before, when you're body was used to the constant supply of caffiene, it was no problem. Now it's not used to it and NOW it's like you've done a different kind of coke and you're wide awake and acting like your five years old.
So...take my advice...if you are a rare caffiene consumer...cut off hours should be before four oclock. :) :)
