Legit? Meh. Call yourself what you want. I think the high school sweethearts phrase kind of references that people don't really date in high school. You hang out with people, then are "going out." You are kids in love, holding hands at football games, stealing kisses in the halls, that sort of thing.
I think I heard college sweethearts before I ever heard high school sweethearts, but maybe that is just me.
Hubs & I met right at the halfway point in college, so we're college sweethearts :) I i like saying that cause I think its cute :)
We are college sweethearts and we were still very young !!
College sweethearts here---but I've never heard the term used before. I've just heard High school sweethearts.
major lol @ kingcake---LOVE IT
VirginiaMarie, I just spent 5 min lolling at your comments in the "Do It In Your Dress" thread.
We are high school sweethearts, then went to college together too so does that make us college sweethearts too??
College sweethearts...well he had just graduated and I was a senior ;)
So I guess that makes us law school sweethearts? Just doesn't have the same ring to it :)
I think the sweetheart thing is reserved for high school couples....otherwise aren't we all "sweethearts" think about it, college, grad school where else do the majority of people meet?
I guess that would make us Business school sweethearts but it just does not have the same ring as high school sweethearts!
I guess we're kind of halfway between middle school and high school sweethearts then? Haha, we got together the summer before our freshman year of high school - but spent our entire 8th grade year flirting like the shy people we are.
Wow, that sounds so weird! We didn't feel young at the time, but some days I can't believe how lucky we got.
I've heard the term college sweetheart as well. Usually reserved for people who starting dating in and dated all throughout college.
...How awkward is the term "professional school sweetheart"? Haha. I have never heard that before, nor have I heard "grad school sweetheart". The other two, yes.
We're college sweethearts. I remember getting told as a freshman during orientation that only the slutty girls started dating before Fall Break... so when my husband asked me out the night Fall Break started, I knew I was safe to say yes. :) We dated all through school and got married the day before graduation.
@kingcake: haha i like that!
FI and I are college sweethearts :-)
I've heard both college and high school sweethearts. I would think law/med/grad/etc school would still say college sweethearts.
My FI and I are college sweethearts (graduate in May!)
@December: that makes me laugh so much, because I committed THREE new student sins. I hallcested, I dated an upperclassmen, and I got into a relationship before fall break (in fact, the second week into school!). But our taboo relationship sure worked out for us. :P
How about "Stickin' it to the man, livin' the ski bum life" sweethearts :)
Ah, the good old days!
Law school sweethearts here! I have never referred to us as that though. Usually I just say that we met in law school. I will try to add it to my vocabulary though!

This is a pretty simple post...
I think the term high school sweetheart is super cute (Miss Turtle's posts made me think of it) and have always wondered...
Can you refer to yourselves as "sweethearts" if you met at other points in school? Like my husband and I dated all throughout college so, can we be called "college sweethearts"?
What about other types of sweethearts? Are there "grad school sweethearts," law school sweethearts" "medical school sweethearts"?
What do you think? Are you and your SO any kind of "sweethearts"?
