glittergrl    Planned my wedding in just under 6months. Had the most super fabulous enchanted, eclectic, bohemian forest wedding on the planet! :)   CA

I've been cruising blog after blog for pictures and can't seem to find anything with a Groom and Groomsmen in some sort of dark brown suits. It can be all brown, pinstripes, Brown with Khaki....whatever, I just want to see what it all looks like.

Secondly, my wedding is a outdoors in a very lush green forest/estate in Aug. Very woodsy/organic. So I decided to put my 3 bridesmaids in different dresses, and different gradations of brown (light mocha, taupe, chocolate).

So my question is if I'm doing this..... and the guys wear dark brown suits, is everyone going to be too matchy matchy or look like a big brown blob?

Your advice or photo inspirations are greatly appreciated.

(btw --- guys will be in suits.... no tuxes!)

What other colours are you doing?

I absolutely love the idea of the three different shades of brown for your BM's but am not sure about the brown suits, mostly because I think that black suits seem to photograph better.  Since its august and outside could you do khaki suits? those seem so summery to me and have seen them in a wedding before and thought it looked fabulous!  Just so light and summery and think it would look great against your natural lush, green backdrop.

    good point MrsJones.

My colors are dusty shades of apricot & lavender for the ceremony. its very vintage ethereal is the feel. my flower girls are flower fairies in light lavender, green and a flesh color (the below images are not the actual colors)

I love the chocolate tuxs...but I could not get them in Edmonton, AB.  But all the USA brides can get them.  Good luck.

My friend recently had chocolate brown tuxes for the groomsmen in her wedding... and I am sorry but they were absolutely hideous.  I don't know if it was the color she paired with them (like a light mint green) or what, but the groomsmen looked like they were straight out of the 70s.  I would really really really recommend against going for brown suits, unless they are a VERY VERY dark brown.

i was thinking to do chocolate brown suits, but my girls are in brown too, and it sort of looks not so good. =( as of today (it changes daily!), we're doing black suits. it just looks a little classier, and if we're asking the gms to buy a suit, it should be one that they can wear again.

I'm also having my two bridesmaids wear different shades of brown - one is wearing a dark chocolate brown and the other is wearing an almond shade.  My FI is wearing a beautiful dark brown suit that almost looks black it's so dark with a kakhi and cream colored silk tie.  He only has one attendant his best man who has a kakhi suit so we're all set.   Here's the picture from Martha Stewart magazine that inspired me to go with the different shades of brown which I think looks great.  I think you could either have your groom's attendants all wear a dark brown suit or they could mix it up just like your bridesmaids.  With some flowers added I don't think it will look too matchy matchy.

No, I dont think it will look too matchy matchy. I think everything will compliment each other.

Clearly, its a matter of opinion, but I dont think the photo meggyg8tr posted looks bad at all! I am not sure what the ick factor was to her.....

I am considering chocolate tuxes as well. my primary colors in my scheme are burnt orange, chocolate, with warm metallic accents...and probably some garnet as well.

Perhaps go with the deeper expresso color? I had a friend get married last year the weekend after Labor day. it was an outside ceremony and the guys wore chocolate tuxes and I thought it all looked great!

Yes, it is a matter of opinion.  I do have to say though that I was not the only one at the wedding who was shocked at the color--I wasn't even the one who brought it up (but was thinking it the whole time).  It really was terrible in person--maybe you can't get that feeling from the photo, but 6 groomsmen and a groom all lined up in chocolate candy bar brown did not look good whatsoever.

That being said, I am not opposed to brown suits/tuxes, if it's the right brown.  Khaki looks great for an outdoor wedding and dark dark brown (that almost looks black) is very classy as well.  These chocolate brown tuxes were straight out of That 70's Show.  Seriously, I could picture Ashton Kutcher up there while Topher Grace and Laura Prepon were getting married.

Color Combo Help: The Chocolate Brown Suit : wedding Icon Biggrin  lol @ meggygr8r.

I do love the khaki option you linked.

glittergrl, perhaps the expresso would be a good option and then do varying shades on the gms' vest?.....hmmmm, that is if you were doing vest with the suits. If not, then allow the varying shades to be in their ties: champagne, caramel, ect.

this has me thinking about my color scheme, lol.

We are also having an outdoor wedding with a rustic feel to it. My bridesmaids are wearing Lyndsay cotton cady dresses from J.Crew in espresso. The groomsmen are wearing chocolate tux's and FI is wearing a latte colored tux. The vests are all the same - sort of gold colored. We are adding color by having lots of green in the bouquets and bouts.

Check out Kelly and Ben's wedding from photographer Ed Pingol's blog. There are some photos of BM and GM in espresso attire.

I am getting married outside and doing brown suits AND brown BM dresses.  I never thought of it being "too much brown"...I love the color.  Here is the pic of the suit the men will be wearing: Color Combo Help: The Chocolate Brown Suit : wedding 282 Parisian I don't think its dated.  The striped help modernize it I think.  As for the vest I think they are doing a cream or champagne?  I'm not sure since my FI handled that....there was a bit of a dilemma with obtaining those suits.  My FI will be wearing this one: Color Combo Help: The Chocolate Brown Suit : wedding 202 Alfresco Suit He would have worn the same suit in a champagne but they couldn't find it or something like that :P

As for the BM they will be wearing David's dresses (since they are all from out of state) of various designs but same color of truffle:

    http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_bycolor_detail.jsp?stid=1552&sid=6589&cfid=55

Maybe I just have bad taste but I don't think it will look bad and frankly at this point after considering what a pain in the a** getting the suits were and how *complicated* everyone finding dresses was, I couldn't care less if it didn't quite work out.  The girls will have green hydrangeas and the men will have green rose boutonnieres.  So in the end, it's all the same.  Perhaps its just that I give up. :)

I really think it matters what colors you pair with the brown as well.  With the example I gave above, that is NOT a color to choose.  However, with the color that MissV gave an example of in her link, that is a color that would work.  Just make sure you look at the whole picture before you finalize the decision!  And bring people who will be honest with you and tell you if you are making a mistake!  You will know in your heart if it's right though.

I'm still deciding. I'd really like to see what a chocolate modern style suit would look like with groomsmen in tan/khaki. A lot of the chocolate suits I'm seeing are too 'shiny' or have a sheen or they are very dad looking.

Agentrv, I love love love both those suits.  My FI looks fabulous in brown, and either would look great on him.  I think that for men's suits you want to go with either espresso or khaki - I think that chocolate is not a good look.  IMO the tuxes are too brown, and I don't think that color is something you could reasonably wear again.  While the khaki is a nice, casual suit, and the espresso is definately elegant.

Your BMs in various shades of brown (a la the Martha photo) is great, and I think would look fabulous with GMs in khaki or espresso.  What you want to avoid there is having the BM dresses actually match the suit color, I think.

Oh, I'm excited for you!  This will be gorgeous.  My sister absolutely refused to wear brown, I have no idea why, and now am going to send her the Martha photo.

    I'm doing Khaki suits!

I have not yet seen a dark chocolate suit yet! It seemed hard enough finding the khaki! So I would remember seeing a dark chocolate one!

I would go with a lighter brown suit for the guys and then do the different browns for the girls. I don't think it would be too matchy at all! It will be so pretty with the girls flowers and the guys shirts under the jkts! It will look great!

have you looked at mens warehouse? or loehmans?

Well Karieck05 --- that was my next question. Where the hell do I go? Color Combo Help: The Chocolate Brown Suit : wedding Icon Confused

    I'm in San Francisco.

    - Men's Wearhouse

    - Does Loehmans carry good guys suits?

We want to rent the groomsmens suits and buy my FI's.

unfortunately men's wearhouse doesnt carry brown tuxes & the suits they rent are black. yeah, we've been thru this too. it seems only independent tux-suit/bridal shops carry the brown colors to rent and they are all tuxes, at least here in philadelphia. we looked all over, and most suits that are rented arent "nice" armani or whatever, they are cheap regular suits perfect for an emergency suit while youre out of town, not a wedding party.  we were set on suits until we came across this problem & ended up going w the striped brown tux (doesnt have a tux leg stripe, tho!) posted on the previous page, which i have seen in person now a few times and i think looks good, not 70s.

what? mens warehouse doesn't!??? they do on the website!

I've only personally tried Nordstroms. They had a lot of "tan" suits..but super pricey and none that we LOVED either. Pricey being-$300 for a jkt.

A friend suggest Lohemans to me! I have not been yet! UGH, why is it so hard to rent a tan suit! I am not into the tux thing either!

I know Loehmans does carry suits (im in Long Beach, CA) at mine.

We were planning on doing the same thing..renting the groomsen and buying FI's suit!

    Ok, now I'm slightly worried!

My sister bought linen suits at Nordy's half yearly sale last year! They were super cheap..like $50 a piece. They are a very light tan! Maybe I will have to go that route.

I will go to Mens warehouse by me and see if they have the tan suit on the website and follow up on this post! Sigh....

Our guys are wearing the dark brown tuxes.  Our color is a muted, grayish green.  HOwever, I think it is important to keep the ties neutral with the brown.  Nothing looks good in color with the brown for some reason.  so we have a taupe colored tie and vest.  I originally wanted suits, but couldn't find any.  we didn't want to force everyone to buy one.  so we did the calvin klein dark brown tuxes, they are pinstriped.  anyway, I think for a woodsy wedding, brown is absolutely the way to go.  black suits would really look out of place.  then with the fantastic variety of dresses, you bring in color with your details, like flowers!  sounds beautiful!

I don't have any pictures from my wedding yet, but my colors were brown and a shade of turquoise and I was very concerned with how it would look, but the black wasn't an option. It threw everything off and didn't pull anything together. I saw a wedding with similar colors to mine, and the groomsmen wore black tuxes and it looked like a bunch of confusion.

For our wedding, the tuxes were a dark brown, and actually looked like suits. Their shirts were cream, vests were a sort of cream, and the ties had both colors. I used turquoise ribbon on their boutainniers because I couldn't use it for them anywhere else, and they looked really, really good. I thought the cream would look a hot mess, but it turned out great. Chocolate brown tuxes look best with more neutral colors. I know its the "in" thing of the moment to pair brown with a variety of colors, but not with the tux. Go brown on brown or brown with another neutral color. Really, if you can, the best thing to do is go into a tux shop and pair the accessories with the tuxes. Definately, don't do black.
