Well my first thought is to have them stay away from red, because when I see red, white, and blue I think of the 4th of July. That being said, I think there are plenty of colors that could compliment different shades of blue - purples, pinks, maybe a sage green? I think you have more options than you realize!
It's actually kind of tough to find good MOB and FMIL dresses. To make it easier on the moms, you may want to tell them colors you definitely don't want them in, and then ask them to clear their dress choices with you to make sure you like the color. Like Tulip said, I think lots of colors will look nice with blue (I think golds and taupes would look great), especially if the moms choose dresses they like and feel good in. Good luck!
Thanks for the help and advice....Yes, I also thought the red would be a little too much like an American flag! My Mom decided she needed to buy a chocolate brown dress to go with her gold shoes, so one color is picked LOL. I'm thinking a light satiny gold for my FMIL. Thanks again!
I think silver or gray looks awesome with blue! I also agree that taupe may be good color as well.
My mom wore a really nice black and white gown, and my MIL wore a really pretty champagne color gown. Just try to pick neutral colors, and they'll go with everything :)
Okay.....so talked to my FMIL and she is adamant about wearing either red or blue, also above the knee...yikes....do I just give in? How much say do I really have in this? I don't want her to wear those colors (especially blue!) But I don't want to pick the dress for her either. How do I solve this without telling her above the knee will look skanky...let my fiance do it? Is that cheating?
Ugh, that's tough. Are your bridesmaids and your mom all going to be in long dresses? If so, you could point out that everyone else will be in long gowns and she may want to consider that as well so that she doesn't feel out of place. Or just be blunt and say that you'd like everyone to be in longer dresses. I definitely think you can have your FI talk to her about it - not cheating at all! Ultimately, what she wears is her choice, but I think if you (or your FI) delicately let her know that you prefer that she wear a longer dress in a color other than red or blue, she'll most likely follow your wishes.
Went with FMIL to a bridal shop and she got a dress that lokks great! Dark cranberry (a compromise) and full length. Now both my Mom and my FMIL are going to look fabulous!

I know most of the posts in here are about wedding dresses but I didn't know what category to put this in. I don't know what colors to put my FMIL and my Mom in! I have looked everywhere and I can't find anything I like. My colors for the bridesmaids are dark blue, royal blue, and light blue. I don't want the moms to wear blue but I want a color that goes with all three and still looks fashionable. I'm getting married the end of May so they are waiting for me to make up my mind and I am drawing a blank. You guys all seem fashionable, I need help!
