Consider silk flowers!  I LOVE gardenias, but like Calla Lillies, they are quite expensive.  Our florist brought us to a flower wholesale place and we were able to buy 12 stems, (each with three “blooms” on it) for the price it would have cost us to get just three real gardenias.  They obviously don’t SMELL like a real gardenia would, but they certainly LOOK real, and I can keep my boquet forever.  If you do decide to go with silk, find a reputable florist to help you.  The quality difference between the flowers at the wholesaler and those at say, Micheals, is quite noticeable.

There are a lot of candle centerpieces that are pretty inexpensive and DIY friendly.  You could do a hurricane candle holder and rose petals maybe.

Potted mums would be lovely (and budget-friendly AND people can take them home with them), in season in September and can definitely be found in colors to coordinate well with your scheme.  If I was having a fall wedding, I’d totally use them for centerpieces and decor.
