My favorite site for color inspiration is: http://www.colourlovers.com/
Go to the palette selection, and search for key words such as "carnival" "tropical" -- whatever you like -- and you'll get some gorgeous examples of complimentary color palettes.
I'm a graphic designer and I often use this to as a starting point for picking colors for a job to create a specific feel. Good luck!
This is one of my favorites ever - mostly pale yellows and so many awesome touches. Plus they used big balloons and I love that. There are about a billion pictures of this wedding on oncewed.com if you search "halli"

This one is red and aqua, but tasteful

This one has a lot of color!

SweetAdeline: That wedding on OnceWed is the first thing I thought of. Here is a link to the whole wedding (it didn't seem like your link showed everything for some reason).

I would say mustardy yellows, deep dark reds, black, and whites.
While the link below has the aquas, pale pinks and reds that you're not looking for, I think it also has some amazing ideas - and the weddings they do are always so colorful & perky that you may find another combo by looking thru the blog...

What about a robin's egg blue (a little darker than aqua) and coral? If you look at pictures of the carousel at Glen Echo Park, both are featured. I think you can create a carnival feel most effectively with paper goods, similar to what Sweet Adeline posted in her third link (the ruffled blog one).
Thanks ladies! I've looked at the oncewed circus images and it's so soft and pretty - but our amusement park is less country and more "made in the 1960s with neon".
My only current real inspiration is: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/gallery/2009/08/14/GA2009081401929.html (picture 6)
Yellow carnations popping out of popcorn holders... So I loved the yellow/red/orange idea cause it allows me to do that floral centerpiece. But I'm worried it's too burnt/vintagey and not neon-y.
This is the sign opening up, so you get an idea of what I mean:

ETA: Y'all are so helpful. xoxo
This one is a little more gothic, but definitely carnival inspired. And the dress and headpiece the bride wore are TO DIE FOR.

I loved that wedding! It has a very 1920's-30's feel to it. Do you know that he is a Magician and she is his assistant. I just think that just makes them all the more cute.
Sahsabahs - I'm getting married at Glen Echo Park a month before you - my fiance was all about blue and orange, but I couldn't stomach NY Knick colors... then it came to me at work a few weeks ago... Coral and Blue. I'm going with this as my inspiration board...

I think it's a bit different than the aqua and red I've been scooping out at Glen Echo weddings, but kind of goes... just my take. But I've seen some beautiful photos of yellow as well, so maybe these photos will be an inspiration (you should recognize the venue...)

Good luck!
Sahsabahs and Miss Boot Camp, I'd be curious to know what you have come up with for your Glen Echo weddings. I am getting married at Glen Echo in July. My ladies are wearing navy and my colors are going to be aqua, yellow and hot pink (really just bright colors). When I was scoping out the place this summer one of the caterers gave me think link to this wedding that she had done that looked awesome - http://kateheadley.net/?postID=57&janelle-and-tim
Good Luck!
Hey there,
Have you picked your colors out yet? We are also getting married at Glen Echo, next Aug and are somewhat stuck on the colors as well. We want a vintage carnival wedding feel, but we dont want it to feel like a kids birthday party. Right now we are thinking about blue, pink and yellow.

Hello hive. Advice needed! We chose our venue, fell in love, etc etc. I decided I wanted a vintage, palue blue, creamy feel to the wedding but one day at dinner my FI blurted out that he thought it would be more venue-appropriate to do a "carnival" feel.
Here's a venue preview sort of article: http://soireespecialevents.blogspot.com/2008/07/venue-spotlight-glen-echo-park.html The location is awesome - we're getting married in a church with our reception at the Pavilion and we're very excited about it.
But what color scheme to use for a wedding carnival idea? All the ones I've found seem to be aqua and red which are apparently adult circus colors, but that's a little too trendy for the FI and I. When I asked him what colors he envisioned he said cotton candy colors - baby blue and pale pink - which I immediately said no to. No baby colors at my wedding please.
We're waffling back and forth between french provincial and carnival theme which makes it hard to decide on anything. We have tons of time, but since most of our wedding has to be DIY to make up for our insane catering costs, we need to get started sooner rather than later.
Any ideas? Color schemes for a Carnival wedding? Thanks everybody!
