I’m having a ceremony in the same room and right before the reception. Guests will actually be seated at their tables during the ceremony (which will be brief-20 minutes-and nonreligious).
Is this really wierd?
How shall we designate “ceremony” from “reception”?
I was thinking of having the band leader/mc tell everyone to feel free to strech their legs and get a drink. (appetizers, beer, wine and sodas will begin being served after the ceremony) Then me and the groom can go out for a couple extra formal photos and then be reintroduced like 15 minutes later.
Does that make sense?

Yeah I think after your ceremony it would be a good idea to have the MC open up the bar for cocktail hour. That sounds like a good plan to me.

I went to a wedding once that had this exact same set up. At first, I thought it was a little strange but it worked out good. The DJ made an announcement, the wait staff came out with drinks and passed apps, the buffet stations were set up really fast while people stretched their legs and mingled – all in all, not strange at all.

great! thanks so much. i’ve been going over the day in my head. i know that i like the setup, but felt others might find it rushed. but it’s all in the name of saving a few bucks so we can invite more people!

That’s exactly how my wedding is set up. I think it’s starting to become a little more common scenarios like this, than in the past I’ve been to a couple of weddings set up this way.

We’re having a big party that happens to have a wedding about 45 min into it. Everyone will be drinking the entire time, and having FUN! I’ll make my entrance, they’ll watch us exchange vows, and then we’ll exit for a bit for a pedi cab ride around the ‘hood, and come back to the party. It will be natural and organic for our friends and family, and they will all appreciate it!
