We are going to the bank this weekend to figure out our finances. I am with a different bank, and I will be closing out my account in a few weeks. I was wondering what paper work I need to take with me? I am planning on going Friday to have my name changed so that we can have the same last name on our account. Besides proof of my ID, do we need our marriage cert, etc? We both need to be there in person, right?

I was added to his account before marriage but I think all I needed was a drivers lisence and maybe my social security card? But I would call the bank to be sure.

Yes, you should both be there and bring a couple forms of ID and I think you’ll be fine.

@soyjoy222: I think you just need your ID. You don’t have to prove you’re married to joint accounts or to be added to an existing one.
